Determination is the weight pressing down on the brains of the living from the tradition of former generations in the form of congealed abstract labor — the intangible trait shared by by all commodities. The living nonetheless act!

To be clear, it was the biggest night for Christian liberalism, not leftism. What we actually need is the militant, class-conscious Christianity of Jacques Roux and Ernesto Cardenal.
Tonight is the biggest night for America’s Christian Left in a century.

"Marx was able to develop a more adequate theory of the capitalist mode of production because he took as his starting point the experience of the working class. This is why Marx’s work was able to speak to the experience of the working class." Another Simon Clarke banger.

Communists who have no illusions, who do not give way to despondency, and who preserve their strength and flexibility ‘to begin from the beginning’ over and over again in approaching an extremely dificult task, are not doomed (and in all probability will not perish). — V.I Lenin

To educate the masses politically... means to try, relentlessly and passionately, to teach the masses that everything depends on them. Frantz Fanon

“To explain how the strangest metaphysical claims of a philosopher really come about, it is always good (and wise) to begin by asking: what morality is it (is he) getting at? … There is absolutely nothing impersonal about the philosopher.” -Nietzsche, Beyond Good and Evil, 1.6

I am reading Lenin’s account of the fall of the Second International, where we find the most succinct and elegant definition of Marxism:

Despairing over the abstract numbers and student performances at [insert institution that are you’re immediately removed from] is only useful if it prompts an existential question: “What can I do concretely as an instructor at my institution to mediate the problem of higher ed?”
It has become a common place in academia to mourn the literacy of students and no doubt things appear dire, but I just finished grading my students’ in-class essays and I am incredibly proud of the creativity and learning they demonstrated. It is definitely possible to move them.

Weird, another gay dream. 4th day in a row. It must be emblematic of my confused feelings of the class and power structure in America

When Fanon calls for a ‘new humanity,’ or Sartre for an ‘incomplete humanity,’ I take them to be doing the opposite of positing a trans-historical individual, though they certainly refuse to abandon individuality as such; they could not retain an emancipatory politics otherwise.

The declaration of Sartre et. al. published in support of the student uprising in 1968. All power to the revolutionary students and the revolutionary masses: then and today!

What I find consequential about the Haitian Revolution is that it was the enslaved Africans who took seriously the slogans of the bourgeois revolutions and were the first to attempt to push them beyond the limits of bourgeois society.

I know even very smart people are functionally illiterate on this point, so it always bears repeating that what Marxism and Christianity have in common, perhaps even more than the primacy of the oppressed, is the critique of religion.
