"The standard creates the culture." @ChristianYelich
When coaches enforce it, it's a rule.
When players own it, it's a standard.
When everyone lives it, it's a culture.
Culture isn't built by what you preach.
It's built by what you practice.
Coach Lee retweeted
Culture isn't the banner in the gym. It’s definitely not the fancy buzz words or viral quotes. It's what happens when the scoreboard says you're losing and your back is against the wall.
What's your standard in that moment? How are you responding and what does your program look like in that moment?

The Program that can make you Stronger, Faster, more Explosive for Football…
Also will do the same thing for Basketball, Baseball, Wrestling, Soccer, etc.
It’s all general Athletic development. Don’t be fooled.

FACT:
If you don’t strength train in-season you’re 5.5x more likely to suffer an injury
A 10% increase in strength training volume is linked to an additional ~4 percentage point drop in injury risk
Bottom line… if you want to stay healthy:
LIFT IN-SEASON

Let the Sport train the Sport.
Let the Weightroom train the Athlete.
Don’t over complicate this.

Every workout has one job.
Give your body a reason to adapt.
Not a reason to recover for a week.

The American summer model 💸
Kids spend an absurd amount of time playing games than actually developing skills or physically improving with s&c work.
Tired/Broken bodies, barely any improvement, emptier wallets and a lot of time away from home.
In the end… a lot games played but very little skill/physical improvement over the summer.
Coach Lee retweeted
The BEST thing an athlete can do to prevent injury is to consistently strength train year round.
If you only train in the off-season you are becoming more susceptible to injury in the most dangerous part of your year: in-season.
A strong athlete is a healthy athlete🙌🏻
Coach Lee retweeted
Train hard.
Eat to recover.
Sleep to adapt.
Think to improve.
Repeat until excellence is your default.
Coach Lee retweeted
You don't leave the gym stronger.
You leave the gym with the opportunity to become stronger.
Strength is built afterward.
In the recovery.
The nutrition.
The sleep.
The decision to come back tomorrow.
Training is the stimulus.
Consistency is the adaptation.
The 80/20 Rule states that you get 80 percent of the value out of something from 20 percent of the information or effort. (It's also true that you're likely to exert 80 percent of your effort getting the final 20 percent of value.) Understanding this rule saves you from getting bogged down in unnecessary detail once you've gotten most of the learning you need to make a good decision.

There is a place for skill work, but if you are neglecting the weight room for skill work, you will limit your development and durability.
Here’s a quick message to high school parents and athletes who want to play in college…
Hit the weights 🙂
These are pro guys who make their livelihood from their sport and even at their level they don’t neglect the weight room. They know it’s a game changer.
If you REALLY want to see your kids development sky rocket FAST…. Hit the weight room multiple times/wk for Months/Years. Ya it’s not flashy… but it works!

Plyometrics should progress from:
Extensive ➡️ Intensive
Simple ➡️ Complex
Longer GCT ➡️ Shorter GCT
As this happens, elasticity and braking forces increase (and the enjoyment of training utilizing new variations improves as well).

GENERALLY SPEAKING when it comes to summer training:
If most FEMALE college athletes put as much effort/attention to their strength/power/speed work as they do conditioning, they would be better off.
If most MALE college athletes hit the gym 1-2 less days per wk (news flash..you don't NEED 5-6 days lifting) and used that time to do speed work and conditioning work, they would be better off.
If you know, you know!
Coach Lee retweeted
Every single off-season there is very average athletes who start taking their Strength and Speed Training seriously…
A year later they become one of the most productive players on their team.
This happens every year. But those who do it don’t waste any time!
Coach Lee retweeted
I have yet to see an athlete “train on their own” at the local gym and actually see any measurable improvement over any period of time.
Especially during the summer, the athletes who miss sessions never improve and often regress.
Programming and environment matters!

The greatest thing track and field ever gives a kid is not a medal, a record, or a scholarship. It gives him the habit of facing the truth. And once a young person learns to face the truth about his effort, his discipline, his body language, and his preparation, you have given him something bigger than sport. You have given him backbone.
