A Reign of Terror in Andhra Pradesh. Democracy Under Attack. Rule of Law in Crisis. Women assaulted. Nine-month-pregnant candidates intimidated. Nomination papers snatched and torn. Opposition leaders arrested or placed under house arrest. Police failing to protect victims. This is the situation YSRCP candidates are facing under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's government during elections to Municipalities, Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs) and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs), the state's local elected bodies. Instead of allowing free and fair elections, ruling TDP leaders and cadres are using violence and intimidation to prevent YSRCP candidates from filing nominations. On October 21, the Supreme Court intervened over irregularities in municipal nominations and issued directions to protect candidates' rights. Yet, on October 22, the second day of MPTC and ZPTC nominations witnessed further attacks across Andhra Pradesh. Look at what happened: Podili: YSRCP candidate Donapati Sravani's nomination papers were snatched and torn. Her saree was pulled, and she was beaten until she bled. Police failed to protect her. Chapadu: Nine-month-pregnant Nandimandalam Prasanthi, contesting the Vedururu MPTC seat, was prevented from filing her nomination, and her papers were torn. Candidates from Nakkaladinne and Alladupalle were also obstructed. Tadimarri: Police entered YSRCP leader Chandrasekhar Reddy's residence and assaulted a nine-month-pregnant woman, other women and party workers. Chittoor: A young woman faced sexual attack and an attempt to snatch her nomination papers. She fled towards the nomination centre. At the Zilla Parishad office, our G.D. Nellore ZPTC candidate's papers were torn, while another MPTC candidate's documents were forcibly taken. Gorantla: TDP leader Subba Reddy, an associate of Minister Savitha, entered the election officer's room, snatched nomination papers from the officer's hands and tore them. Raptadu: YSRCP workers travelling to file nominations faced stone-pelting. Chowdepalle: Nagabhushan Reddy's residence and vehicles were damaged, while Srinivasulu Reddy was attacked. S.R. Puram: Police resorted to a lathi-charge amid tensions in the presence of the Collector and SP. These are systematic attempts to deny YSRCP candidates their democratic right to contest elections. Candidates are attacked, women humiliated, nomination papers torn inside government offices, and opposition leaders arrested or confined to their homes. Where is the State Election Commission? Where is the DGP? Why are the Supreme Court's directions and the SEC's candidate-protection instructions not being implemented? National media must examine the video evidence and demand answers from Chandrababu Naidu's government. YSRCP demands immediate candidate protection, preservation of video evidence, fresh nomination opportunities for obstructed candidates and strict action against attackers and negligent officials. What exactly is @JaiTDP celebrating? Uncontested victories or the elimination of electoral competition before voters could even reach the ballot box? The State Election Commission's Proforma-V reports reveal that the TDP-led alliance secured 576 of 599 uncontested municipal ward seats. In seven municipalities, all 220 wards were declared unanimous. All 17 uncontested municipal chairperson positions also went to the ruling alliance. But behind these numbers are serious allegations of violence, intimidation, police obstruction, nomination papers being snatched and torn, forced withdrawals and questionable rejections during scrutiny. YSRCP candidates were allegedly prevented from entering nomination centres, while even government offices became scenes of electoral intimidation. Chandrababu Naidu must explain how a party with nearly 40% vote share was denied meaningful competition across several municipalities. TDP cannot claim democratic legitimacy merely by celebrating uncontested victories while refusing to answer allegations about how those victories were secured. Democracy means defeating opponents through people's votes, not preventing them from contesting elections.
