The 2012 Elhaik paper itself states Ashkenazi genomes form a mosaic including Semitic ancestries. Larger follow-up studies (Behar et al. 2013 and others) found no detectable Khazar contribution and confirmed substantial Levantine ancestry (typically 40-60%) mixed with Southern European, matching Judean roots plus later admixture.
