It's so hard to market your value prop if you're marketing to everyone. Different people will have different reasons for using it, and you can't explain it to everyone simultaneously. 🧵
One important validation criterion most skip: • Is it catered to a defined group? If it's built for everybody, it's built for nobody #buildinpublic

The CNN/SSRS disclaimer about oversampling in polling is NOT a problem. Oversampling with appropriate weighting actually allows for more accurate polling especially if you're interested subsamples of that population. Weighting responses is constantly done in polling & research
This poll has an oversample of republicans and republican-leaning independents. 898 of 1503 total people polled are or lean GOP.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Oversampling is a statistical technique for obtaining more precise information about particular subgroups (in this case, Republican primary voters). The final sample is reweighted so that poll results are not biased. pewresearch.org/short-reads/20…

The CNN/SSRS methodology states "accurate proportion of the Republican oversample were weighted based on prior CNN benchmarking within the overall population"

Wow. I just started using @WhoWorksThere's saasyDB to find potential customers and it's amazing. The data are so much cleaner than I would have guessed, and with it, I am able to find founders who recently raised rounds (and their emails!) It's really making cold emails easier!

I really need to say congrats to Stuart - the cleanliness and thoroughness of the data surprised me. Coming from data science I'm used to super messy data 😂

What do you use to run your affiliate programs? Rewardful looked to be most recommended as of a couple years back but are they still the go-to?

Brian is absolutely amazing and was so helpful in making many suggestions for my landing page that I'll be working on tonight. 🙏 📧He has a newsletter on landing pages you should sign up for! 👥He is also looking to talk to founders who have already optimized their landing pages to learn about their experiences. Brian is great! 🖨️ He also shares a lot of resources on landing pages and conversion
Leads are visiting your page But not converting How to know which WHY: 1) No one wants your product 2) Your landing page sucks And doesn't "land" with anyone? 3) You're attracting the wrong leads Or something else? Comment below! 👇🤔 #buildinpublic

#buildinpublic has been giving me the advice I need most exactly when I need it the last few days. Incredible.
30 marketing lessons I learned: 1) People decide to buy with emotions and justify the purchase with logic 2) Competing on the price is a dead-end because there will always be someone cheaper 3) Adding one more user acquisition channel doesn't solve a Conversion problem 4) You should have an upsell plan for people with money 5) Your audience will ditch the status-quo solution if the transition is simple 6) Adding more social proof is the easiest way to improve the Conversion Rate of your landing page 7) Nobody has ever said "I wish we started collecting emails later" 8) SEO is only great after you validate your product idea 9) Most users would rather go for more value than a lower price 10) Organic marketing funnels are not linear; sometimes, it will take a day to convert, and sometimes a month 11) You are not selling the product; you are selling the transformation that your product delivers 12) Most users don't hate pop-ups as much as you do 13) Don't think about the A/B test if you don't have at least 300 unique daily visitors 14) Spending 1 hour on marketing strategy can save you from 6 months of pointless work 15) You don't grow by getting more users; you grow by getting more "activated" users 16) Increasing the price often increases the Conversion Rate too 17) People follow people on social media 18) Clickbait hooks are okay if you can overdeliver with your content 19) Writing like an actual human being is the ultimate copywriting tip 20) It's better to send 20 personalized cold emails than 200 generic ones 21) Side-project marketing is underrated for Indie Entrepreneurs 22) Profit is the single marketing metric that matters 23) Finding an irritating problem is more important than coming up with a genius product idea 24) Going viral won't solve your marketing problems 25) Your audience doesn't want to feel stupid 26) Writing a useful blog article is not enough in 2023 27) Send the number of marketing emails you would personally like to get 28) Charging one-time payments is an unfair advantage 29) Don't expect people to recommend your product to their friends and family 30) Do marketing that feels scary

About 350 unique users of Case Viewer so far, and no known meltdowns (or nobody is telling me)! Thanks for trying it and especially to those who’ve shared ideas, or made voluntary contributions, or just shared enthusiasm or distributed the link (caseviewer.app).
So ... here's something different! Over the past couple months, I've been working on a macOS app called "Case Viewer." It's something I've wanted to have since law school—a fast, mostly frictionless tool for accessing & navigating the best available versions of judicial opinions.

The #buildinpublic community is filled with amazing people. Over the last week or so I had calls with three incredible people who have provided so much help: @atunasashimi @GenxBonVivant and @TigerTeamX

Click on this post 👇, if you want to continue see my posts. If you don't, my posts will start to disappear from your feed. See, I've observed a pattern in my feed and done a simple experiment past few weeks. This is what I found. For awhile, I've wondered why some were not active on Twitter recently. Thought it was 'summer' or something. Then I visited their profile and learned that they've been active. Just not shown on my feed. There was a pattern with these accounts. These were accounts that I enjoy reading, but did not necessarily engage with the posts. They weren't threads, they weren't long-posts. I just read them, enjoyed and scrolled down. So, I started to test by engaging with these accounts on purpose. Then I learned. All it took was 'clicking' into a post. Just one post. Then I will start to see their new posts in my feed again. So, if you value anyone's account, engage with their posts. Doesn't need to be a like, comment or retweet. It could be as simple as just 'clicking' into their post. Otherwise, you might see their posts disappear from your feed, without you knowing.

Zoom updates its Terms of Service to become the NSA 2.0: I'm in disbelief at this update because of how far-sweeping it is, yet here we are. Direct quotes from section 10.2 "You consent to Zoom's access, use, collection, creation, modification, distribution, processing, sharing, maintenance, storage of [ the stuff you say in meetings ] for any purpose.... ... you hereby unconditionally and irrevocably assign to Zoom ... and your end users to unconditionally and irrevocably assign to Zoom all right, title, and interest in and to [ the stuff you say in meetings ], including all Proprietary rights... " Does this strike anyone else as far-reaching, utterly insane, and totally unethical? Gentle reminder that Google Meets is free, and that Zoom insists workers come into the office because they admit their business model only made sense in the pandemic. You can read more about Zoom's claims to own all the stuff you say during meetings, the stuff your users say in meetings, and probably the things your children will say near your phone when it's locked here, on their website, as they commit corporate suicide: explore.zoom.us/en/terms/

US tax-prep companies were using Meta’s tracking pixel thereby giving Meta access to sensitive tax prep data of IS citizens Great coverage on @CaveatCW !

Could that violate 26 USC 6713 “Disclosure or use of information by preparers of returns”? But that may limit the overall penalty to $10k per year (a drop in the bucket). Or is there another statute that you think the tax companies should be worried about @byelin @bittner ?

If that’s the statute and penalty, it feels like that exists to punish smaller tax preparers to whom a $10k maximum penalty may be meaningful. Or could I be misreading the statute?
