Dear friends of Refaat Alareer around the world,
I want to share with you that after a long and painful search we have finally found Dr. Refaat Alareer’s body, which had been buried in a makeshift cemetery. Today, we moved him, along with his brother Salah, his sister Asma and other 4 of his relatives, to Ibn Marwan Cemetery near Al-Shujaiya, the neighborhood where he was born, lived, and now rests eternally.
Please keep him in your prayers, and may his family and friends find strength and peace.
Recounting the events of 2024, highlights include: Surprise trip to Italy, hosting events for Muslim Women in Academia, celebrating new life, hijabi for a full year and lastly.. submitting & passing my PhD through a cancer diagnosis, surgery, menopause & adjunctive chemo plans
For anyone who's been aware of my current health circumstances this achievement is particularly huge for me. These last months have been the most trying and draining. I can't believe I made it to the end of this chapter
It has been a whirlwind week but as of last Wednesday I am Dr Mal! 🫣 I had the loveliest viva with Prof Chris Kent and Prof Jan de Fockert. I couldn't be more grateful to everyone who helped get me here, especially my supervisor Prof Michael Banissy 🫂
