We're about to enter a period where not reading or writing becomes as ubiquitous as smoking once was. We can hope people will eventually realize this is bad for them, as they did with smoking. But this is far from certain; the cost may not be as obvious.

Connecticut is proud to celebrate Vedant Rakesh Kansara of Farmington High School and Suchita Srinivasan of Cheshire High School, for being named 2026 U.S. Presidential Scholars. One of the nation’s highest honors for high school students. Their accomplishments reflect the talent, dedication, and hard work of Connecticut’s students, as well as the commitment of the educators and families who have supported them along the way. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing all they accomplish in the future.

Indian-Americans may be facing their worst wave of hostility in the United States in half a century. The irony is that they are under attack not because they have failed to make it in the US, but because they have succeeded so spectacularly.

If I’m investing in frontier AI I would underwrite it mostly on new discovery and its applications like medicine because coding and most of knowledge work is quickly being saturated by sub-frontier models.

Metal straws that are somehow easy to clean is a $100b market lol
Can we stop greenwashing on this one and just go back to straws that suck well instead of straws that suck?

He doesn't give off the typical evil billionaire vibes. Loves his daughter dots his wife and is not afraid to show emotions. He is not clapping for himself, he is just a father clapping for his daughter.

dawg this is a bleak way to think about love. your life partner isn’t an early stage investment?? earning potential is a poor proxy for who they’ll be when you need them most. this year I spent six weeks hospitalized before giving birth and underwent major surgery. I needed my husband’s help just to get to the bathroom. on top of a serious pregnancy complication, i was navigating several family crises. the most valuable thing in a partnership isn’t someone’s potential for success. it’s their commitment and the consistency of their care regardless of your circumstances. in good times and bad etc etc

if you’re branded, you can raise $100M+ for your seed round in a single week if you’re unbranded, you may struggle to raise even $2M why? 80% of VCs add negative value, and 80% of VCs are lazy. they ask claudette to pull a list of who’s on your team, then sit in IC enumerating your wunderkammer of IOIs and Ivy Leagues and ex-lab folks, and everyone gets starry-eyed, enchanted by the billions branded teams surely guarantee. enchanted by the thrill of throwing massive checks whilst doing hardly any DD, because, certainly, that’s irrelevant, and these people will figure it out, right? right. and so you run wild with the money. you store it in a grotto and show up at the doorstep of the neoclouds, the governments, the enterprises, with an unlimited rope of credit tied to an origin no one can quite explain some of the branded people will make it & rule the world. some of them are thrilling, brilliant, hilarious people, and for that, I’m happy to support and stand in awe of their success. but they shouldn’t be the only ones allowed to make it. many of the most talented & ethical visionaries I know are stuck in dead ends despite wanting to found, because they are illegible to capital. the unbranded genius has depressingly jagged societal intelligence. she is more awake to the rules of people games than the branded cadre, and yet she is never given a seat to play the unbranded genius is an opsec purist who only chats on signal the unbranded genius is invited to more exclusive parties in her field than many of the branded people, and yet VCs underwrite her network as irrelevant the unbranded genius is told to curate a public persona to seem smart to the salesmen of money. but she has an aversion to being perceived, so she operates almost entirely offline, where no one can ever know who she is or what she’s up to in the valley of automation, she is alone in the unquiet darkness. I extend a branch to pull her up, but every time, without fail, it snaps, and I’m forced to watch her fall into the valley’s maw. she gets chewed up and spat out, but she’s a genius and she’s strong, so she reassembles the bits of herself. but every time she does, it’s groundhog day yet again. and so i'm left asking: how do we brand people without logo stacking? I can’t keep watching unbranded geniuses fall. it’s becoming too much for the soul.

Timeless definition of dehat by @VarshneyVardhan ...
If by Dehat we mean rural in a location-sense, a group of people who live in villages then obviously I am not anti-Dehat nor are the @JungIndien @sirfaditya folks I am sure. @svembu has shown wonderfully, for example, you can run the world’s biggest companies, in large parts at least, from villages. Rurban becomes a continuum - a game of infra and sustainable living. I am anti-Dehat, though, in the Ambedkarite sense. The idea that there could be a community veto of who you love, where you study, what your occupation is and so on. That mindset could be in cities too. Little girls being covered head to toe is unfortunately a not uncommon sight in Indian cities. I don’t think there is any need to clarify this, just like post-religious or anti-socialism need not be or modernity itself. But nonetheless it is useful. The point is not to sneer at hillybillies, the way the newly converted Romans sneered at “pagans” - very much a play on the rural polytheists being apparently boorish simpletons. For me Dehat simply means the Khap and its related apparatus. It is a reminder that our civilisation failed to have our own state in large parts for centuries and hence defensively reflexively went into this shell. Being anti-Dehat is breaking that shell, unapologetically.

my unfiltered thoughts on the data industry right now: there are too many brokers in the data space. in the last 4 months this industry has become the new equivalent to dropshipping. i have no issue with that. but if your entire moat is spam calling smb owners all day and begging them to license their data for a micro1 referral fee, you are not going to make it, and you are not the next mercor. most of you are not building anything at all. to everyone reading this, and the hundreds of other posts on your timeline from 18 year old sf kids claiming $200m run rates please ignore them. these are the modern day elizabeth holmes’. they're taking one day of contracted (not paid) revenue and multiplying it by 365. the worst i've seen is someone who made $100k off a micro1 referral fee in 6 hours and claimed they're at a $73m run rate (12 (daily working hours) / 6 x $100k x 365). this is literal fraud, especially if you raise money off of this claim. you see this in a lot of yc companies in recent batches. the only businesses i see surviving this are the giants that already exist (mercor, micro1, surge ai, turing) and the non consensus bets: consumer data collection apps like kled, robotics data collection companies like build ai and meckaai, etc. tldr: don’t believe everything you read, and just brokering company data is not a venture scale business and should not be claimed as such.

not sure how i feel about a us citizen, pretending to be an indian missionary collecting and selling data to labs in the states at the least, i'd be a lot more comfortable with someone like a @deepigoyal or @albinder doing this
🚨Scoop: Pronto founder Anjali Sardana has set up a new venture in the US Provision Labs will operate in the physical AI space - and will focus on collecting data to train, test AI systems designed to perform real-world tasks using robots and other machines @ETtech

A bad VC will look at a company, find all the ways it could go wrong, feel good about their analysis, and call it a day. A good VC will look at the same company, understand the risks, ask “what if it all goes right”, bet on the founder, and help build a generational business.

Pavements. It comes back to pavements and garbage. Simple problem to fix - and suddenly Indian cities will stop looking so bad at the ground level. You can add traffic and air pollution to the wish list of problems to fix, but that may take time. Pavements can literally be fixed in a few months.
Ethiopia capital, in a country with a GDP per capita of just $1,000, fun fact. Almost 50% of its population lacks access to electricity, and its HDI is worse than Bihar’s, yet its capital still mogs our Tier-1 cities. 😭😭 Our cities are our PR to the world, and we’re doing almost nothing to fix them. Ethiopia’s capital PR > India PR.

indian vc's really overestimate their power and reputation in the valley one of the older funds here in india threatened a founder for not taking their term sheet, saying "we'll make sure you never raise another $ from any vc anywhere in the world" laughable, since our homies in sf respect these people even less than our founders do
Why are Indian VCs so afraid to take risk and make money? Someone should go to India and take risk and make money. Our story - corememory.com/p/a-new-india…

never understood why LPs expect a bunch of MBAs to be good at venture capital. There’s only two types of VCs I would trust with my money 1. super technical engineer who’s actually built and scaled companies. 2.humble & spiritually-aware archetype who’s exceptionally good at reading people (2nd one is harder to find than 1st)
LPs will be choosing between: -A16Z gaming fund VII (10b, fund VI underperformed S&P) -“Mykonos Capital” (300m, ex Goldman Sachs Harvard grad whose relevant experience is 6 years as a principal at NEA) -“Paperclip” (100m, ex Anthropic engineer anchoring with 20m of his own capital made through backing Cursor’s A) I don’t think this is a hard decision
