This is a much sainer take on the ai risk against cryptography. It might break something. It probably means we increasse the number of bits of security. Think of it like vaccinating your children, not injection them with raw milk that's allegedly ai safe.

I’ve had a few people write to ask me to follow up on a (reply!) tweet I wrote that’s gotten a lot of retweets. I considered deleting it just to avoid the headache, but I think that would make people more paranoid. So let me share my thoughts.

We can’t assess AI risk to cryptography, but we can assess people making nonsensical claims about that risk. If AI breaks a widely used cryptographic primitive, the most likely target is hash functions. Humans already broke MD2, MD5, SHA-1. RSA and elliptic curves have held up.

We're thrilled to share that @ColeMacro, CEO of @Strive, will join us for Capital Sessions in Lugano on 21 October. Strive has more than doubled its Bitcoin since January to 27,000+ BTC, much of it funded by SATA, its daily-dividend preferred stock. A unique opportunity to tap into the mind of one of the most innovative operator in the space.

Yes, for nearly 10 years, I told people: "Well in theory Liquid is built on the reputation of its members. But no one knows who the 15 keyholders are." At one point, @francispouliot_ admitted that he did know the 15, but he decided it was better to maintain the secret.

My thinking is evolving here... these blended custody models are making less sense, especially when the signatories are opaque (nobody knows who was running the liquid federation its not public knowledge). Either do full self custody and do it right (geographically distributed multisig set up in a clean environment on dedicated hardware with self installed Bitcoin Core)...or opt for a trusted & KNOWN custodian and diversify your risk (both in terms of custodians & in terms of your assets). You either have to be an all in Bitcoin Maximalist or you embrace securitized Bitcoin and make it a reasonable portion of your financial portfolio. I'm still a strong advocate for the former of course, but if you don't do it right you're better off with the latter. Securitized Bitcoin will eventually rugged too, but at least you get some legal protections and the custodian has to stake their reputation to earn your business. It would simply be irresponsible to be a full send, all in on Bitcoin type of person if you're not properly self custodying true spot Bitcoin. Not everyone gets to be self sovereign.

Open markets need open routes
Applications are turning into markets. Digital assets have expanded the range of financial services available, but access remains fragmented across providers, assets, and networks. Intents turns payments and exchange into an open market, giving applications a common interface to access and compete across providers. Read more: arkadeos.com/blog/open-marke…

Lightning is back. A recent outage exposed the risk of having so much depend on a single provider. We felt it, you too. We’re working to ensure this never happens again. Today we are launching Intents, a shared market interface for payments & exchange, built on Bitcoin.

We should stop building “Lightning wallets" The swap model is superior and it is how fintechs and neobanks operate rn. Lightning is a backend corridor If my CHF turns into USD at checkout, do I really care about having a "USD wallet"? The tech is hard, liquidity is expensive to provision, and the market is (still) tiny next to BTC/stablecoin conversions

Every other currency in this list belongs to a central bank. Bitcoin belongs to the internet. But appearing in a currency selector does not make Bitcoin an independent economy. An economy needs more than sending money from A to B. It needs savings, credit, financing, risk markets and capital formation. Stablecoins are already good internet payment rails. Bitcoin does not need to fight that battle (yet). The harder challenge is capital formation that never routes back through a nation-state's financial system. Bitcoin has established independent money. Now it needs independent markets.
