It’s important to have at least one friend who isn’t friends with any of your other friends. Someone who exists in a completely different part of your life

Nationality is a legal framework - you can be stripped of your nationality. Ethnicity is biological - whatever you are, you are it for life.

First of, offense taken. You're a Yoruba woman mocking an Igbo system you don't understand, while your own culture has the same thing. Your mothers have Alagbo Ile/Egbe Iyawo Ile, the council of daughters who return to audit and protect, would you call your own mothers toothless dogs? I doubt. You call it billing and torment because you're watching like a tourist. You don't know the jurisprudence, you saw women demanding accountability and called it extortion.
A bunch of toothless dogs that are only interested in showing off, billing couples, and tormenting widows. No offense to my Igbo mutuals.

Most of you Igbos spewing gibberish about Umuada are speaking from a distance, from pain, or from things you watched in Nollywood. Some of you have never attended an Umuada meeting or participated in one in your own community, yet you’re confidently telling everyone what Umuada is about. I was born and raised in Port Harcourt. I struggled to speak Igbo fluently; I could speak Ikwerre and Efik fluently. But I decided to trace my roots, and my first real involvement with Umuada opened my eyes to things I never knew. A lot of the people complaining about Umuada asking for malt and biscuits are people who barely come home, don’t participate in community projects, don’t pay community dues, and only show up around December or when there’s a wedding or burial. Then Umuada asks for their contribution and suddenly everybody has something to say. In my community, Umuada may not have political power, but we have influence and responsibility. We pushed for an amendment to our marriage list. We contributed money to replace our village transformer. We contributed to the renovation of our primary school. When there were security challenges, we raised funds to support the men protecting the community. We also carry out yearly welfare checks on our sisters in their respective husbands’ homes. When any sister needs support, we contribute through our monthly dues or individual donations. So how exactly do you think all these things are funded? Before you sit online and reduce Umuada to “malt and biscuits,” go back to your own community and participate. Ask questions. Learn how your people actually operate. Change begins with you.
“Igbo women are loud about feminism because men allow it.” Men should stop talking about feminism; they sound foolish doing it. If a woman’s freedom to speak about men’s brutality toward women exists only because “men allowed it,” she is not truly free. Saying women are too loud about feminism and that it is unnecessary, while citing women in Afghanistan, is shooting yourself in the foot. Afghan women’s inability to speak for themselves because men subjugate them is exactly why feminism matters. We will not stop talking about feminism until we have the right to speak like every other human being, not because of the “benevolence of men.” Osim Umuada is powerful… Those birds only care about food and malt. What rights do the Umuada have in Igbo land ? They only ask you to buy malt at weddings and burials.

Good News: PISA Assessment Will Be Coming to the South East Soon After I wrote about my desire for the South East to participate in the PISA assessment, I received a message from Raj. He flew in from the United States, and we met in Toronto to discuss extensively how the assessment could be conducted across the region. This assessment is very important to me because if the South East performs strongly on the global stage, it could significantly boost the region’s international reputation and help demonstrate the quality of talent we are developing. This could strengthen our case for attracting world-class companies such as Apple, Texas Instruments, NVIDIA, Tesla, and others to invest in the region. We are deliberately nurturing a large pool of exceptional talent, and the world needs to see what is happening here. In 10 years, our ambition is for the South East to become a major source of talent for the global workforce. And we are very serious about it.

I used the Electric bus in Abia state, Nigeria 🇳🇬 from Umuahia to Abriba and I loved the experience. I first had to get my Abia state (ABSSIN) code, used the code to get the card and load money on the card. Everything cost me N2250… so easy and simple. We missed the first bus and had to wait for the next one. The ride was less than an hour.

The marginalization is becoming something else. Aba Power could not power their plants to generate electricity because they don’t have gas to feed their plants. Meanwhile Abia State and Imo State are the major gas deposits in the country. The gas is piped from Abia state to the North without any outlet to feed industries in the South East . They don’t have any reason to deny the people of South East this gas that is in large quantity in their region. Ndi Igbo it is time to come together as one to fight that which is fighting us. – at Ukpakiri, Nigeria
