I think people are way too married to the idea that everything is cyclical and repeats itself. That's just not true. The only motion of time is forward. I don't think it's productive to assume there is zero progress good or bad ever. There, literally, is only the future.

I'm perceived as totally normal. People scream at me from passing cars the completely normal amount.

Its not an unpopular opinion. It's just a poorly thought out idea designed to make you feel smug and superior. Obviously, the person more important than you doesn't have to be your own child or even a child at all. To be quiet frank, the entire premise is just silly.
Unpopular opinion: most people who don’t have kids never fully grow up. The reason is simple: you can’t be fully mature if there’s nobody in your life who truly matters more than you, someone you’d be brave for because your love for them transcends your survival instinct.

Pets are difficult You can be as close with them as can be, yet there's forever a communication gap You can't know you truly give them all they need

If you're just going by self reports then of course people who didn't break up are going to cope and claim things got better, I bet a lot of them just got used to being very unhappy
Of unhappily married people who stayed together, two-thirds called the same marriage happy five years later. Of the very unhappy who stayed, nearly 8 in 10. Divorced individuals were no happier. Most rough patches are just patches. The rational move is usually to push through. Study: healthymarriageinfo.org/wp-c…
