I still don't understand why Jared Kushner was on the board of Signature bank. Mind you - @SamAntar has mentioned NUMEROUS times that he laundered a lot of money through Leumi bank- the previous bank that owned Signature bank and sold off its stake in the early 2000's. Old habits die hard. "SIGNET" Signature bank had Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, and Barney Frank on the board when it blew up. We'll never know the full story, but it's probably more like "the office" than some long winded conspiracy.

Charles Kushner, Jared’s father, pleaded guilty to 18 counts of tax evasion and witness tampering. He hired a prostitute to seduce his brother-in-law, filmed it, sent the tape to his sister. Trump pardoned him and made him ambassador to France and Monaco. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charle…

Japan is months away from running out of yttrium, a Japanese official told the Financial Times. China shipped Japan 4 tonnes of yttrium oxide in September, down from 51 tonnes a year earlier. Every AI data center needs power and every gas plant needs a turbine. The first rows of blades sit right behind the burner, in gas hotter than the melting point of their metal. Part of what protects them is a ceramic coat of zirconia a few tenths of a millimeter thick. Pure zirconia changes crystal shape as it cools, swells about 5%, and cracks off the blade. Adding 6 to 8% yttrium oxide stops that. Jet engines use the same coat, and the US has told Beijing it will not export the engines for China’s C919 airliner because the yttrium shortage has constrained production. Chip toolmakers coat the inside of etch chambers with yttrium oxide too, because it resists the fluorine plasma that erodes other materials. China exported about 1,600 tonnes of yttrium last year. At China’s price of $9 a kilo, that is about $14M. Argus prices it at $1,150 a kilo outside China. Coating makers are now revisiting zirconia mixed with magnesium and calcium, recipes from the 1970s and 80s. They make a less tough coat. I build chemical plants. Outside China, almost no one separates yttrium at commercial scale. A new plant takes 18 to 36 months or longer to build. ft.com/content/ebd3244a-9120…

Chicago 9 years ago was at the tail end of the Rahm boom. It felt inevitable the city would continue to grow and develop into a global supercity. Every year new apartment towers, restaurants, jobs, etc Then the riots happened in 2020 followed by DSA politicians gaining power....

$336k/yr of Airbnb or wander.com gets you insane properties to rent.
Another insane milestone in SF. I went down a rabbit hole on this one. The previous owner passed away in January at age 96. Her property was assessed at $919,446, and she paid just $11,599 annually in property taxes. The new owner will pay an estimated $336,762 a year.

Can you go to war (at low escalation rungs) with mass that makes Koenigsegg look affordable?
Are the stories about 65 lb Area I Anduril drones costing ~$420k each also a psyop? If the Koenigsegg Jesko were to have the same price per pound, it would cost nearly 19 million dollars, rather than the modest $3m it goes for. Jesko has a ~330 mph top speed Altius? ~135mph

Just met some Ukrainians today, cannot share what they said, but it’s been pretty well-known on inside circles that they are egregiously overvalued

China adding ~40 AP1000’s worth of electricity by the end of 2030. Theoretical energy offset of these 40ish nuclear power plants would be 51 to 70 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas which would represent 54% to 74% of China’s total liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports.

@anasalhajji this is kind of an interesting reality if they actually achieve it. Changes the LNG hegemony of the world a bit I imagine…

100x the quantity of prescription psychotic drugs on the streets.
apologies if this is super naive but just asking bc im curious. is there anything different about raising a kid now in 2026 versus in the 80s that warrants them needing more supervision? like when my dad was like 8 he'd wander around the city alone most of the time. i'm asking bc when i have kids, i dont want to have to supervise them 24/7. i feel like that's very demanding on parents. why cant independent play be more of then norm? is it a cultural thing? or is the world more dangerous now than it used to be?
