This is a good place to note that neither party -- not Trump's GOP and certainly not the Democrats -- are talking about reducing the power, reach, control, and even ownership of government over individuals, businesses, the economy. It's still statism run amok.
Many of the ways that Musk will be hounded once Dems get power will not involve lawfare (as much as weaponization of the regulatory state and red tape). But there WILL be lawsuits. And Musk's inability NOT to keep tweeting through it will make them so much worse than otherwise.

This should be one of the biggest stories of the moment. When a court blocks the Trump admin from deporting migrants to dangerous home countries, the government is sending them to 3rd countries with zero ties—who then send them straight to where they were fleeing. Lawless.
Within five days of being deported from the U.S., Moussa Diawara says Ghanaian officials forced him onto a flight to Mali, the very country a U.S. immigration judge ruled he could not be deported to. Diawara says he was homeless and went into hiding. Watch the 60 Minutes report Sunday at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.

This tweet made me pause. Ukraine attacks Russian civilian infrastructure in ways to make life inconvenient to make the war real for everyday Russians. Russia targets and intentionally kills Ukrainian civilians.
Why is it important to close down Moscow airports? Because it has a huge impact on Russian economy and logistics. The Moscow Aviation Hub is essentially a bottleneck for Russian logistics. Whenever its work is disrupted, it creates a cascading effect on the Russian logistics as a whole. Moscow is the central hub for the Russian domestic and international air traffic. When the Moscow airports (Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Zhukovsky airports) close down, this disrupts connectivity across all of Russia, and matters are further complicated by the fact that Russia has 11 time zones. Russian aviation is heavily centralized, and due to the cize of the country, aviation is the only viable transportation means for long-distance travel in Russia, cargo transportation included. When flights are delayed and/or canceled, the ripple effect is felt all across Russia. The Russian state is forced to install air defense systems in the area, taking them from the front lines and military infrastructure inside Russia. Russian airlines bear additional costs of using more jet fuel, added handling fees at alternate destinations and paying compensations to passengers for the delays. Flights that cannot arrive in Moscow airports are diverted to other airports which creates a strain on the ground infrastructure and fuel resources of those alternative airports. Russian airlines and planes already work under severe Western sanctions that complicate obtaining spare parts and performing maintenance. There have been reports that about 20% of the Russian airfleet failed to return to active service due to needing maintenance. For large airlines, these figures can reach up to 30%. This also means that the remaining 70/80% of the planes are working more which leads to more vulnerability. In addition to all the direct and indirect costs of closing down the Russian airports, there is also a moral impact. The Kremlin largely prefers to "insulate" large cities (starting with Moscow and St Petersburg) from the war, creating the illusion of normalcy and "business as usual." When passengers cannot leave on their flights for hours and businesses suffer from logistics disruptions, it serves as a loud reminder about the war to those Russian priviliged enough to ignore it otherwise.

More like “we can’t do it because it’s illegal and unconstitutional” and then Trump does it anyway.
SECRETARY RUBIO on PRESIDENT TRUMP: He's visionary. He imagines what people say is impossible. He thinks things that people say, "well, we can't do it because that's never been done before." And then he achieves them.

Pulling out the anecdote. In deep Trump country in 2022, I was at the bent and dent across from the Trump merch store. Somehow they had a box of Ukrainian flags. Every cart in the store had one they were taking home.
50% of maga voters sympathize with ukraine, 5% (!) with russia. bots really have their work cut out for them.

🚨🚨 THE ILLEGITIMACY PLAYBOOK / THE DEMOCRACY FILES: A PRIMER 🚨 I will be using this thread to track all drops, so bookmark it. I spent most of yesterday backing everything (now 312 gigabytes) up in various sources and getting the materials out to others. I also produced an AI video (below) to explain the whole thing to others are not on 𝕏 - feel free to distribute. Here's the primer: USAID, the foreign aid agency, had a democracy office. Inside the agency, it was called DRG. Officially, DRG administered "democracy assistance." They'd go inside countries they thought were sliding into authoritarianism and help the opposition there. That assistance included election monitoring, judicary support, independent media, and civil society building. You may have heard the term "color revolution." The model comes from Serbia in 2000, where trained student activists brought down Milosevic with the help of Western governments, after sustained protests. With the help of USAID's democracy office, this model was implemented in many other countries to topple governments: Georgia's "Rose Revolution" in 2003, Ukraine's "Orange Revolution" in 2004, and many more. Then last year, DOGE shut down USAID. But the USAID democracy office didn't stop. They formed a group called the Democracy Renewal Group, the same initials as their office (USAID Democracy, Human Rights, Governance). Their goal: apply their own playbook to the United States itself. This goal became a plan, called Renew American Democracy (RAD). It invoked the "4 B's" framework. Block - use lawfare and protests to make life harder for the Trump administration. Bridge & Belong - control dialogue and win people over. The final and most important B is Build. Build means redesigning the American government itself, and the crisis is the opening. In their own words: "We can take that breakdown moment and leverage it for a big structural reform, you know, refounding moment." - Danielle Reiff, DRG lead. Calls show DRG working alongside DSA on ideas of creating a different government, one that does away with the Constitution itself. DRG does not run the Block operations. They hand it to UDA, the United Democracy Alliance. One organizer calls it a "huge galaxy": lawsuits, street protests, non-cooperation. They list No Kings, Indivisible, MoveOn, 50501, and many other mega-activist NGOs among their members. Another organizer calls UDA Erica Chenoweth's project. Chenoweth is the Harvard professor behind the three-and-half-percent rule of regime change: get that share of a country's populace onto the streets, and historically, the movement wins. The UDA is very "hush-hush." They have no website, no roster, no filings. Then come the red lines: things the Trump administration could do, such as calling the Insurrection Act on protesters, that would mean that the federal government, in their words, "crosses the threshold into illegitimacy." Nobody voted on those lines. There was no public debate. These red lines were developed within secretive working groups, and in a paper addressed to governors and staff. In the words of Reiff/DRG: "So that if there is a red line crossed in terms of a Constitutional crisis, like everyone's already pre-organized. And so Mike Smith actually said, he goes, oh, you guys have the day after tomorrow plan." Cross a line, and the paper's options include states refusing to lend their resources to federal officials, and governors convening what it calls a "Third Continential Congress." Running the UDA's Insurrection Act working group: Rear Admiral Mike Smith (RET) of National Security Leaders of America (NSL4A). NSL4A is also credited with operationalizing UDA, the blocking operations. NSL4A consists of about 1,600 ex-officers, spies, diplomats. They're turning red lines into indicators and running a situation room to monitor them throughout the midterms and beyond. The NSL4A's lawyers told them to stop recording meetings in case of subpoenas. But the rest of the network continued to record. DRG works in conjunction with Renew to Thrive (R2T), which ended up accidentally publishing 400+ calls and thousands of documents. These calls and documents were never meant for our eyes, but it's them, on tape. Thousands of NGOs and billions of dollars are involved in this endeavor. Most of them believe they're saving democracy. The problem is that people who spent their careers deciding when other countries' governments had lost their legitimacy wrote that test for ours, in private, and planned for what comes after. Who decides when your government is legitimate?

MORE: Putin is trying once again to breathe life into the myth of inevitable Russian military victory in order to persuade the United States and other supporters of Ukraine to compel Kyiv to surrender. Putin constantly asserts that Russian forces are making gains along the entire frontline. He makes claims of territorial gains so far from reality as to be fantasy. He hearkens back to the Soviet Union and the Red Army to evoke images of Soviet hordes overrunning the German Wehrmacht. But these claims, images, and maps of supposed Russian gains are all fictional. Reality is quite the opposite.
SPECIAL REPORT: Russian military victory over Ukraine is not inevitable. It is extraordinarily unlikely, in fact, unless Western support for Ukraine collapses. There is simply no inevitable correlation between the relative size of combatants and the outcome of a war — particularly when the war is existential for the smaller state but not for the larger one, as is true today. Russian President Vladimir Putin is nevertheless trying once again to breathe life into the myth of inevitable Russian military victory in order to persuade the United States and other supporters of Ukraine to compel Kyiv to surrender. Ukraine, not Russia, has actually held the initiative in key sectors of the frontline for much of the year and has developed a number of ways of offsetting the overall Russian manpower advantage. Russia’s population and relative (but diminishing) wealth will let Putin continue his war for a long time, to be sure. But Ukraine can also continue fighting for its existence as long as Western support continues.

Russia would apparently get a stake in Alaska gas venture through this deal which @FT reports was discussed during recent meeting to discuss Ukraine at the Kremlin.

My latest for @opinion debunks 3 myths about US manufacturing jobs: 1) they're all good paying; 2) they're all attainable by anyone with a HS degree; & 3) Americans are dying to work them. These 3 fuel a lot of bad policy (eg tariffs); politicians should stop spreading them. /1 bloomberg.com/opinion/articl… (🎁 )

Russia kills civilians on cargo ships in the Black Sea while Europe lets the shadow fleet sail through the Baltic.
A search and rescue mission is underway in the Black Sea after an incident with the Comoros flagged cargo ship "Khoryv", reportedly a Russian drone attack, about 13 nautical miles east of Constanta, Romania. One person is dead and three are missing, Romanian authorities said. The Romanian Naval Authority says it was reported around 10 a.m. local time. Video has surfaced online showing a life raft and response vessels near a capsized ship, purportedly from the attack this morning. The Interior Ministry says the ship suffered major damage and capsized. Another commercial vessel recovered 10 people, nine alive and one dead. The vessel had 13 crew on board. Data from MarineTraffic shows the ship left Turkey Oct. 21 headed for Romania’s Sulina port. Authorities said a helicopter could not be deployed because of weather and low visibility. Multiple Romanian media outlets reported it was struck by a drone, AP reports. The incident follows drone attacks on at least seven cargo vessels off the Black Sea coasts of Romania and Bulgaria in October this month alone and Romanian pilots shot down two drones over Romanian territorial waters on Saturday.
