"By the way the Probation blog is now officially blocked on the HMPPS system." It's only taken 16 years but I guess recognition of sorts at last.

Amended post after deleting my previous and fact checking. So here we go. These pair of not fit for purpose scum bags, grossly overstepped the mark with regards to the manner in which they themselves escalated the event. If you have never been in a position where you judge the use of force level, I'd suggest you dont try and justify their actions. Now, thats better. gbnews.com/news/sussex-polic…

The only confidence I have in our CJS and police is that if I post something that causes alarm harassment and/or distress whilst only giving my personal opinion, I am confident I will be imprisoned.

Very good @MattFoot2 article on the Court of Appeal's grudging reluctance to rectify miscarriages of justice. Malkinson, Plummer, Sullivan ..... Will Letby be added to that list? lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v48/n17/…

What happens when the Court of Appeal corrects a miscarriage of justice — but refuses to examine how it happened? Read @MattFoot2's article in the London Review of Books: lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v48/n17/…

If there is a significant gap between the number of suspected or identified miscarriages of justice and the number of cases that actually reach the appeal courts, that deserves serious examination.A justice system cannot simply assume that every conviction is safe. There must be effective, accessible mechanisms for identifying potential errors and ensuring credible concerns are properly reviewed.Ignoring the possibility of wrongful convictions isn’t acceptable. A genuinely fair system should be confident enough to scrutinise itself, acknowledge mistakes where they occur, and put them right. @Shuggie556 @seanbwparker @franticworry @UKinjustice2025 @Mia87562570 @AccusedScots @lizyeld @RebelG41 @RoseCaporale @purposeday @OldLodskins @ccrcupdate @andyburnham @ShabanaMahmood @CPSUK @UKSupremeCourt

'Magnolia Graffiti is Sean’s first-hand account of being wrongly convicted and imprisoned. It’s a powerful read that raises some vital questions. It got me thinking about how politics and culture impact our justice system Can a person be tried fairly in a climate of social hysteria, such as we saw during the MeToo or Black Lives Matter movements? Are men and women treated equally by the law, for example, if rape is alleged but both parties became voluntarily intoxicated? To go further, is rape law an appropriate vehicle for justice in relationships gone wrong or regretted sexual encounters? What is the impact of incarceration on a person who maintains their innocence? And, finally, how do juries respond to defendants with a disability such as tourettes or a stammer? Parker’s testimony provides a valuable and rarely heard insight into the workings (and failings) of the justice system' - Joanna Williams Plus @jowilliams293 speaking at this year's Battle of Ideas Read on: cieo.substack.com/p/battle-o… Magnolia Graffiti available here: amazon.co.uk/dp/B0HHRHHQBH @EmpowerInnocent @FACTukorg @AFAF_freespeech @ScotUnionEd @AccusedScots @acadofideas @StuartWaiton

I was honoured to be a guest speaker at @IFAD9S today, there were some amazing speakers there today. The fact is we all in essence said the same thing. Our CJS is grossly flawed, corrupt and hell bent it seems on putting innocent people in prison and dont care who's lives it ruins. From the police to the CPS, the judges and even back to criminal defence firms. They are all failing the victims of false allegations. We are not a group if individuals just having a moan. This institutionalised major problem is ruining lives. @AlexJJNorris @andyburnham @RupertLowe10 @RestoreBritain Mr Lowe, when you are PM, this must be one of your first tasks.

I’ve watched this and it really does make you stop and think about what happens when someone is accused of something as serious as rape and the justice system then fails to properly hear their side. In my view, what happened to Sean was a miscarriage of justice, and the fact that he has had to keep fighting for the truth for so long is deeply troubling. I also believe the CCRC and the Crown Prosecution Service have seriously let him down. The CCRC is supposed to provide an independent safeguard when there are concerns that a conviction may be unsafe, so people should be able to trust that those concerns will be properly investigated rather than simply dismissed. If there is evidence raising genuine questions about a conviction, it deserves to be examined fully and objectively. Whatever someone is accused of, an allegation should never automatically become a presumption of guilt, and a conviction should never mean that legitimate questions about the evidence can no longer be asked. The consequences of a wrongful conviction can destroy someone’s freedom, reputation, relationships and entire life. Justice has to mean more than securing a conviction it has to mean being willing to admit when something may have gone seriously wrong and having the courage to put it right. @seanbwparker @EmpowerInnocent @ccrcupdate youtube.com/watch?v=OYs2cP9V…

Long-running issues involving indefinite sentences need to be addressed with urgency and humanity. If a sentencing system is leaving people effectively trapped with no clear or realistic route to progression, that deserves serious scrutiny. The principle should be that punishment, rehabilitation and public protection are balanced fairly, with people having a genuine opportunity to demonstrate rehabilitation and progress. Promises of reform are welcome, but what matters is seeing meaningful changes actually delivered for those who have spent years caught in the system. @Shuggie556 @seanbwparker @franticworry @AccusedScots @Mia87562570 @lizyeld @CharlieWalsham_ @Surviving51D @RebelG41 @RoseCaporale @purposeday @in_justice_ipp @ActionIpp @IppMovement @ccrcupdate @ShabanaMahmood

Just my professional opinion of course: In cases of false sexual allegations — which form the majority of the work I undertake — the accused often has no independent evidence of innocence beyond their own word. When the prosecution advocate simply delivers a more polished performance than the defence, the result is all too frequently that an innocent person is convicted and imprisoned for many years. I would suggest that where a false allegation is subsequently proven, the person who made that allegation should face the same sentence that was imposed (or sought) on the person they falsely accused. Only then might we begin to see a meaningful reduction in false allegations made for reasons such as: Financial gain (for example, CICA awards of around £22,000) Revenge To strengthen a position in family court proceedings Mental illness Regret or guilt A misunderstanding of what actually constitutes non-consensual sexual activity This is not about silencing genuine victims. It is about restoring balance and ensuring that the consequences of destroying an innocent life through proven falsehood are not one-sided. lewislegal.co.uk/index.html
