NEW: In a pre-emptive move, House Democrats have introduced a resolution that Congress should not bail out AI firms in the event of a financial crisis and should be subjected to the ordinary bankruptcy process.

I wrote about the fraud being perpetrated by numerous powerful people and institutions, including many people who identify as "progressives" and "socialists." In my view, this is one of the most urgent possible discussions in this authoritarian moment. equalityalec.substack.com/p/…

The reality of course is that in Canada, the US, France, India, Mexico, the UK and Swiss, suffrage extends to nearly 100% of people living in the territory controlled. The one exception is Israel. If you redo this chart with trying to be misleading, as the Israeli government does here, Israel would be at the bottom. Some 6 million Palestinians living under the Israeli governments rule, have no right to vote for that government.

This is a ridiculously uninformed piece, and as a fellow libertarian I expected more from Cato. A few things the author either didn't check or got wrong:
1) Both campaigns asked for the voting extension. Flávio Bolsonaro's own party requested extra hours in three states before the ruling. A remedy both sides asked for is not "selective interference."
2) The judge who confirmed the extension changed nothing is Nunes Marques, president of the Superior Electoral Court and a Bolsonaro appointee to the Supreme Court. The piece quotes him, then ignores what he said.
3) "A judge he had unilaterally appointed" is false. The TSE has seven seats: three Supreme Court justices, two from the Superior Court of Justice, and two lawyers the President names from a list of six drawn up by the Supreme Court. The ruling in question came from a lawyer-seat minister picked from that list.
4) Bolsa Família is a means-tested cash-transfer program, not "social security." Brazil has a social security system; this is not it, and the two run on different laws and budgets. @hiperfalcon also fails to mention that in 2022 his favored Bolsonaro side raised the same cash-transfer benefit by 50% a hundred days before the vote, with the same courts looking on (still the largest single raise in the program’s history).
5) X was blocked for refusing to keep a legal representative in the country, as the law requires of every company, and it came back the moment it complied.
Brazil's courts deserve serious criticism, and this isn't it. That is a lot of mistakes for a seven-paragraph article.
Free elections depend on neutral courts that stay within their limits. In Brazil’s latest election, they did not, and that undermines trust in the democratic process, writes Cato’s @hiperfalcon.

We linked the barcode on the mailers to Snailworks, a mail tracking company which received federal campaign payments from only one group in 2026: the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Rep. @AOC: There's only 1 person in this Senate race that has fought to raise the minimum wage. That's Angie Nixon. There's only one person in this Senate race who hasn't taken money from special interests and corporations. That's Angie Nixon. Don't let them use fear and scare tactics to get us to stop thinking critically. Angie Nixon was a young, single mom who has lifted herself up and she doesn't want to close the door behind her.

I really think everyone needs to pay attention to this cordinated campaign to delegimatize Muslim Americans - not just as citizens but as humans.
These increasingly hysterical attacks are a prelude to Republicans bringing us to a very, very dark place after the election.

1. Not sure when a new, on-the-record rape allegation against a sitting president isn’t considered news — especially considering Trump was found liable by a jury in a similar case — but it was ignored by most mainstream media outlets

“Do you understand who you are dealing with? This is America. Back up.”
A United Nations meeting was dramatically suspended yesterday after US ambassador Mike Waltz and Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla both ignored the chair’s plea for order in the chamber.
The problem started when Waltz blamed Cubans for the shocking US embargoes and blockades that are causing huge suffering to the people of the island.
Cuban representatives, astonished at the way Waltz blamed the victims for the crisis, in their eyes, stood up and objected, citing Rule 71, which allows listeners to raise a point of order.
Ambassador Waltz responded that the Cubans didn’t like the substance of his speech, so were not raising a point of order.
But when complaints continued, this caused Ambassador Waltz to lose his temper and shout “Back up! Back away. Do you understand what you’re dealing with? This is America.”
.
INTERNATIONAL TERRITORY
The rest of the United Nations was outraged by this attitude, as the UN building is legally international territory.
When Waltz refused to stop his tirade, Khalilur Rahman, chair of the 81st session, ordered that the meeting be instantly suspended. Waltz ignored him.
The meeting was then resumed, but footage of the argument created a huge storm on social media.
Some people in the US defended Waltz’s narrative, blaming Cubans for the suffering caused by the US embargos.
But much of the commentary from the rest of the world said that the United Nations, for the safety of the delegates and the organization itself, should no longer be situated in New York.
When New York was originally chosen as the site, the US pledged not to politicize US visa access to meetings—but has regularly broken the pledge, such as refusing to allow visas for Palestinians.
