one of the best parts of living in nyc is that you can go spend a lovely fall evening in central park. you can just do that – at Manhattan, NY

On my best days I look like her. She is spiritually one of us, and it's ok 🙏
Whoever ends up being my wife someday, will have to put up with a lot of shenanigans and tomfoolery. What lessons have you learned from relationships?

the great lie online centrists have managed to whip themselves up about is that trans people are demanding maximal policy changes and this is going to kill democrats everywhere instead of the far bleaker reality, that we are begging them to hold the line on what already exists

turek is not every democrat, which it is WHY it is so important to form an impassable wall against his idea to restrict trans healthcare so that he does not BECOME every democrat. there’s room to debate how feasible the pace of progress can be. there isn’t to go backwards.

You have to vote for the guy who’s gonna make everyone’s lives better otherwise a transphobe might get into office
He may very well be the deciding vote on legislation that makes everyone's lives better. We can either have him win and pressure the crap out of him to not be anti-trans, or help his opponent get elected who voted against the Equality Act and for the Defense of marriage Act.

Stop understating this. A trans Hyde Amendment is less like denouncing gay marriage in 2006 and more like denouncing antiretroviral therapy for HIV patients in 2006.
If this was 2006 Josh Turek would be taking about defending traditional marriage. If this was 1956 Josh Turek would be talking about keeping white and black kids to their own spaces. He would be just as spineless in any era, it’s how he is. Nobody’s free until everybody’s free

I've generally held to "vote blue no matter who," but I've concluded Turek cannot win. His stances are completely unacceptable, especially on healthcare. If he wins, other Democrats will follow suit because they'll think this nonsense is a secret sauce.

Was it really that hard to say something like this @turek4iowa
#KansasSenate Adam Hamilton on transgender rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself.” “I’m gonna love the trans person as well as the straight person, male or female. We have to do better than picking on small groups. What’s happened is we’ve turned a group of people into a campaign issue because it polls well.”

Politics people are very normal on this platform
You are one person that I’m spoke that way to, and you are saying things that are…uhm, childish and stupid in my view selfish. So I’m really trying not cuss you out and say all the horrible things I actually want to say to you right in this moment.

Like it really is bizarre how the anti-trans resistlib types immediately start *screaming* at you for respectfully stating a difference of opinion on what's politically effective vs. them, or advocating for yourself! The rest of libET does not do this

Sidenote: for all the centrist hemming and hawing on here about how trans rights are *the* electoral drag, voters do not give a shit + slightly favor Dems on the issue. Like with UK Labour, the consultant class is deeply out of touch with what most swing voters care about.
#IAPol: "No Iowan should face discrimination. As a Paralympian, I also know it's important to have rules. It's why I oppose males competing in female sports ... I'm against taxpayers paying for sex changes, too." Josh Turek is up with a new #IASen ad. Future reservations: 🔵$18.0M 🔴$15.5M

This is the way: perform compassion, mess up some of the terminology. “We should treat transgender people the same way we treat straight people.” That’s how you sound like a regular person, not “who? me? Pro-trans! No! Never! Fuck em! We hates them!”

These people are not interested in strategically persuading the public to support trans people more than they do, they want to do endless snarky dunks on their closest major-party allies for a relative handful of likes on X.com , just absolute loser behavior
"The first things trans activists need to know is that transphobia is widespread" wow Nick, any more groundbreaking observations to share today?

You can debate strategy until the sun comes up, but my read is that Josh Turek is just a genuine transphobe. The ad goes much farther than what would be necessary if he were acting only on strategy.

Many people here treat me as a maximalist, but I am only asking for "let me live a normal life (non-discrimination, health care access, etc.), and don't treat me w/contempt". That's a standard red state D position & you're playing dumb if you act like Turek's hand is forced here.
This is what our candidate for Kansas is saying. I’m sure if you look at his platform he has the same red-state democrat positions on “trans women playing in womens sports.” But even in unfavorable places, there’s ways to talk about these issues that lead w kindness + respect

imagine if a blue state republican had an ad saying ‘I’m the gay rights candidate. that’s me, the lgbt rights candidate. I PROMISE to vote for gay marriage & trans rights’. would people who care strongly about that issue then vote for the republican? that’s how stupid this looks
#IowaSenate AdImpact: Josh Turek releases new ad in which he opposes trans women competing in women’s sports “No Iowan should face discrimination. As a Paralympian, I also know it's important to have rules.” “It's why I oppose males competing in female sports ... I'm against taxpayers paying for sex changes, too.”

Monitoring the situation
Hasan Piker on Barack Obama endorsing Angie Nixon: "If Obama actually causes Angie Nixon to win, if Abdul and Angie Nixon both win, I'm buzzing my hair and I'm turning blond. I'm fucking Kyle Kulinski, dude, and by that I mean having SEX with @KyleKulinski. That's right. I'm having sex with Kyle." 😭

OK, this is where I draw the line. I've heard a lot about how 90% of Dems are great here—amazing, thank you. But I won't vote for candidates that want to pass new laws taking away my access to health care or other very basic things; no party can demand we do this to ourselves.

If you've decided you don't need any pro-trans people in your own coalition—that signing laws segregating us away from any/all public spaces or health care access is worth the ever-mythical single issue transphobe swing voter—good luck to you but your election is your problem.
