When the headlines begin to compare FD returns to stock market returns, it is time for this piece!
So, I speak to investors across all kinds of markets.
In the middle of a bull run, they think diversification into debt is for losers.
In the middle of a down market, they think my desire for holding domestic equity is just bad advice.
The reality is that you need to hold all the assets all the time - just the slice size of the pie will differ according to your age and future need of money.
Driving on the wrong side of the road might be the norm in Delhi, but following basic road rules in investing will give you a steady and predictable ride, keeping you ahead of both inflation and taxes at a portfolio level.

The global narrative on AI has been dominated by the generation of intelligence - trillions of dollars of market-cap, and categorization of countries/markets as 'AI winners' and 'AI losers'. Too early to say that narrative has ended, despite the 30-40% correction in some large stocks.
This presumes all the gains from this general-purpose technology will accrue to the model owners and upstream (data centres, silicon). To the contrary, the gains from past general-purpose-technologies were spread throughout economies.
India, given its remarkable success with Digital Public Infrastructure spreading gains from technology widely and evenly, has a great opportunity to replicate the same with AI. But it will need hard work.

PS: This is not to say India won't need its own sovereign models - it will. Or that it shouldn't build muscle upstream - it must.

Statement from Reliance Industries
In light of recent remarks about Reliance and the Indian market, we wish to place the facts on record.
Like every Indian enterprise, Reliance has grown in an India that welcomes investment and innovation, homegrown or international, that improve the lives of the people.
That openness rests on the rule of law. As the Government of India has stated, it applies the same process to every applicant, Indian or foreign. Jio's own satellite services await clearances.
At Reliance, we have never feared competition. We see it as the truest test of who serves the customer best. Jio itself entered India's crowded telecom market in 2016 as the newest player, with not a single customer. In just ten years, Jio has earned the trust of over 530 million customers and given Indians some of the best digital infrastructure and most affordable data in the world.
We welcome competition in satellite communications, including Starlink. Every player, Jio included, must serve the people of India and abide by the laws and policies of the land.
For those who still don’t know, @deeptibhaskaran @vivinav @LisaPBarbora and @monikahalan comprise India’s Quad of Personal Finance.
The combined product-to-policy knowledge on this table is greater than on many finance company boards.
