We had the great pleasure of having a lecture by Dr. Mario Leitao on sentinel lymph node mapping in endometrial cancer at the Robotic Surgery Postgraduate Program of the Einstein Hospital São Paulo. His talks always take me out of the “memorization mindset” in Medicine and (…)

MY take-home message about SLN in high grade tumors:
In tumors with a worse prognosis, being proportionally aggressive surgically is not always the answer. These patients need effective adjuvant treatment, not the removal of every clinically normal lymph node. SLN is enough.

We surgeons overestimate our experience. How lucky we are to have Rene at the 11th International Gynecologic Oncology Symposium. Hope he could convince that GOOD EVIDENCE should guide our practice. Always a pleasure to learn from him.

But… because we were on time, there was enough time for discussion and questions, when we could share our experience (which is of course very important and valuable… but published evidence is better!).

Now, one of the most anticipated lecture: less radical surgery for low risk cervical cancer. Nowadays, a concept we accept but when it was developed, a revolution. Tailored surgery with less morbidity and better outcomes for our patients. Dr Kathleen Schmeler 😍

Through the IGCS Global Curriculum & Mentorship Program we spent the last week in Mozambique assisting the fellows in Gyn Onc surgeries. Our former fellows are the only 3 Gyn oncs of the country and are also part of the program as local mentors. @IGCSociety – at Republic of Mozambique

Teaching complex surgeries is challenging. But technology allowed the learning curve to be steeper. IGCS educational portal and other platforms make anatomy and surgical technique accessible. In this pic, Ricardina, former fellow, is assisting the fellow in a radical hyst – at Republic of Mozambique

Improvement is slow, but visible. When we 1st came in 2016 cancer diagnosis was a death sentence. Training in prevention through colposcopy and leep courses led by @MilaPSalcedo and @kmschmeler and access to Gyn Onc specialists has changed this. I’m so honored to be part of this. – at Republic of Mozambique
