Very interesting thread from Ellie Mae O’Hagan on B/sky about trying to raise the alarm about Brand years ago when he started getting involved in left wing politics (worth reading the whole thing)

having such a hard time deciding which hill to die on. all of these hills seem great and I also wouldn’t mind dying in a more flat area

I admit that I completely broke down today. I cried uncontrollably. I couldn’t hold myself together after witnessing what I saw with my own eyes.
Today, we went to film a journalistic report inside the displacement tents along the seashore. I swear, what we witnessed was beyond what any human being should have to endure.
I saw men crying bitterly. Men I had never seen cry when they lost their children or when their homes were destroyed. Today, I saw them crying because they were powerless to do the simplest thing: protect their children from the water and the cold.
We spoke to families who told us they had spent the entire night carrying their children in their arms after floodwater covered the floors of their tents and soaked their mattresses. They couldn’t find a single dry place to put their children. They couldn’t even give them a few hours of sleep.
I saw children no older than five, without proper clothes to protect them from the cold, without heating, and without a dry place to sleep. Children shivering inside tents that cannot keep out the rain, protect them from the wind, or provide even the most basic sense of safety.
What more must happen for this world to act? How much more suffering must people endure before someone remembers that they are human beings?
I am sick of this world. I am sick of its hypocrisy and empty slogans. To hell with a world that talks endlessly about human rights while leaving children to drown inside their tents. To hell with everyone who has witnessed this suffering and chosen silence, and to hell with the governments and institutions that have the power to act but continue to turn their backs on us.

I asked this girl who was the most handsome man in the world and she said Ewan McGregor and I was like “thanks but you can only pick one”

Many scholars have made this argument. But it's the first time that I personally am making it, which is pretty exciting for me

gossip from sources in R senate campaigns, lots of blame but one theme emerging: the Million Charlie Kirks were a catastrophe. half of them hatched "unsouled" and slid sideways into hell before they could vote; the rest were "webs of blood and tooth" who largely went third-party

Blah blah, whatever, I know but: if establishment Dems refuse to try and get even basic accountability for the unprecedented grift and corruption of the last few years, the only conclusion available will be that they also want to enjoy their own impunity.

Hakeem Jeffries on Morning Joe: The American people don't want us to get even. They want us to get things done on their behalf because life is way too expensive.
We ran on affordability, we won on affordability, and now it's our job to govern on affordability.

I think a lot about this scene in 24 Hour Party People where a homeless guy talks about Boethius and the Wheel of Fortune; it's contrived for the film, I know, but it represents something lost now; the strand of working-class intellectualism, where poor men were proud of going to the library and learning for learning's sake, Rita studying her bewks, Plays For Today, a time when references to ancient philosophy could be freely inserted into popular media without commissioners quashing them under the patronising assumption that 'ordinary people might not get it'; instead of the crab-mentality false consciousness instilled during the 00s and 10s - the Shameless On C4, Benefits Britain, Footie And Love Island Middle Aisle of B&M coding - where intellectual aspirations are seen as stupid and unbefitting of one's caste. I can explain: the press lads realised Starmer vs Farage was disastrous, no fun at all. So they reassessed and came back with “we’re going back to Labour vs the Tories”. This is their work, it has fuck all to do with Badenoch herself, who remains a dangerously online crank.
