the whole world could be like this btw you just need to have the courage to make some people sad
The biggest culture shock I've experienced so far is that the Apple store in Japan doesn't lock any devices to the table

"He recalled her talking about an idea for a series of children's books that would grow alongside its original readers, starting out sweet and child-friendly before gradually becoming darker and more adult." This is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the books because I remember reading them as a kid and then finishing the series as a teenager. You really feel the growth of the characters and stakes as though it's happening alongside you. Perhaps that's one reason why it resonates so powerfully with Millennials: that shift from whimsical fairy tale to a mature adventure story occurred in sync with us.
Very loosely. That's part of why Deathly Hallows is so peculiar: Rowling decided at the start how the series would end, and by the time she got there, the characters and plot had changed. But instead of adapting the ending, she seemed to shoehorn the characters into the conclusion she'd originally planned. There's an interesting anecdote from someone who claimed to have worked with Jo Rowling at Edinburgh's Netherbow Theatre in the early 1990s. According to him, they were both earning extra money marking students' creative writing assignments. Rowling marked short stories, while he marked plays. He recalled her talking about an idea for a series of children's books that would grow alongside its original readers, starting out sweet and child-friendly before gradually becoming darker and more adult. Looking at the finished series, that ambition clearly came through. But it raises an interesting question: did planning the ending so early help Rowling bring the story together, or did it sometimes force the later books to fit a conclusion that no longer suited the characters she'd developed?

The Protestants are correct. All should come to throne of grace as they are so they can be made better than they were. It takes longer for some than others, but the important thing is that it happens.
Woman at church yesterday showed up in a sweatshirt and literal pajama pants. Wore her hood the entire service. I was absolutely appalled. I hate this whole, “came as you are” narrative the Protestant church preaches. Other religions wouldn’t let you in if you dressed so disrespectfully. Why is it only Christian’s that are held to this standard? That we must just accept everything?

This is such a good idea.
If Malfoid is to have a pet snake, it must be their biggest shipper and constantly saying things that make Harry blush and he absolutely refuses to translate for Malfoid.

The old cabin in the woods was filled with the sounds of laughter as the man and his wife relaxed on the couch together. They had just returned from a long walk through the forest and were eager for a rest, yet, as these things so often ended, they simply couldn't keep their hands off each other. "You know, husband," the young wife said, her voice full of feminine mischief, "it would be nice to come back from one of our romantic getaways without being pregnant." "Would it," he asked, his hands moving up and down on her enchanted flower robes. "Yes husband," she answered, trying but failing miserably to sound sincere. "And every time we come back home it somehow turns out I'm carrying your child!" "A true Holmesian mystery, to be sure," the man said with a courteous nod. His wife rolled her eyes and moved, if it were possible, even closer to her husband until she was practically on top of him. She looked him in the eyes with as much sternness as she could muster but all it did was make her look even more beautiful. "It's the truth," she said, unable to stop laughing. "I mean it!" "Dear wife," he said, holding her so close he could feel her racing heartbeat, "you have never once meant that." "Well," she began, flustered and delighted that her husband had so effortlessly seen through her, "maybe I mean it this time! You don't know!" The man pulled his wife into a passionate kiss. She tried to speak, but he kissed her again and without any further pretense she wrapped her arms so tightly around his neck he could scracely breathe. After a long time, enough that the shadows on the floor had shifted, they finally came up for air, breathless but more alive than ever. The man gazed into his wife's eyes as if seeing into her soul, and said, "That's where you're wrong, wife." She sighed happily and asked with an alluring whisper, "How do you always win?" The man smirked, then stood up and held out his hand. His wife blushed and took it without any hesitation. Delighted that her beloved had bested her once again, she eagerly followed him down the hall. With a wave of his hand the door opened before them and closed behind them, and the man and his wife were not seen again until daybreak. #Malfoid

Foamy waves crashed upon the cold shore in a symphony of haunting beauty. Dark clouds blanketed the skies. In the west, the last traces of daylight peaked through the increasing overcast. And along the sandy beach, completely alone for many miles, walked the man and his wife. "What're you thinking about," the man asked. "Obviously not you," his wife exclaimed, clinging to his arm as she walked barefoot in the sand. "Liar," he said with a smirk. "Oh? And I suppose because I'm your pregnant wife you feel like I'm always thinking about my husband, hmm?" "I didn't mention any of that, my love," he said with a gentle laugh. "But yeah, pretty much." His wife blushed and put on a pouty face that made him unable to resist pulling her into a passionate embrace. At first she pretended to be annoyed with him, but that lasted all of a moment before she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him with delighted enjoyment. After a long while she pulled back and whispered, "It's quite presumptuous of you to think I'm always going to be so forgiving, Mr. Potter." "Forgiving of what, my dear," he said, his hands on her pregnant belly. She sighed softly as she felt him holding her, and for a moment she forgot what she was saying. "You always making me fall helplessly for you whenever I'm trying to be mad at you," she suddenly exclaimed. "I'm trying to let you know that you're being arrogant but you're just taking advantage of my being pregnant and in love with you!" "Well, when you put it that way," he said, his hands sliding around to her back, "I guess I have been quite an arrogant husband lately." "Yes, I'm glad you finally agree," she said, struggling mightily to not smile. "In my defense though," he gently pulled her close so the swell of her belly was against him, "You're the most beautiful woman I've ever seen and I love you with all my heart." His charming smirk made her blush again, and she whispered in happy resignation, "I hate that I can never stay mad at you." The man kissed his pregnant wife and she responded with overwhelmed longing. They stood there, locked in a delightful embrace, until the tide touched their feet. His wife gave a happy sigh as the cool water rushed over her ankles and said, "Dear husband, your pregnant wife needs you to carry her home." The man kissed her again, then hoisted her in his arms bridal-style and started walking up the sandy beach. She sighed in utter contentment, her hand on her belly as the children she carried in her womb gave another miraculous kick. #Malfoid

Not every service is a luxury. And overcharging for everything is how a company can quickly go out of business.
The people are constantly crying out for cheap services. They want 1 billion Americans.

Power gives you the opportunity to become better or worse. Will you use it to rule others wisely or to oppress them? Will you use it for their good or for selfish gain? All of heaven and hell waits to see what sort of man you will become.
Lord Acton was wrong. Power does not corrupt. It reveals who you truly are.

British aristocrats suffered a 20% death rate in World War I, shedding blood on a scale and at a rate not seen since the Wars of the Roses The British state repaid that sacrifice by confiscating their estates through ruinous death and income taxes, wiping away the upper class as a politically important force The wages of that are Britain's dismal present The centuries that saw it governed by a martial aristocracy saw it rise to the peak of Olympus as the mightiest, most prosperous, and most flourishing civilization The century that has seen it ruled by "democracy" has seen it go from a glorious empire to a wretched, poor little island that is increasingly full of Pakistanis and Africans
WWI was an experiment in human breeding. What happens when the finest stock is sent off to the trenches to die at scale?

That's because Western society has been severely and viciously psychological abused for decades to expect another "beating" at any moment. The trauma of constant, random terrible events takes its toll.
Feels like we're in a weird lull just before all hell is threatening to break loose.

God using His raw power to save you with or without your consent seems not like the Christ who calls us to repent and to take up our cross and follow Him. It seems like the Allah of the Mohammedans, who says "These to paradise, and I care not. These to Hell, and I care not." An arbitrary monster who saves and damns at his arbitrary pleasure, free of any constraints like reason, good and evil, right and wrong, etc.

The young man and his wife strolled casually along the stone walkways that cut through the wooded property of the old manor. Leaves rustled in the wind before being shaken off the trees. The man's wife held her elegant wand in hand and with a wave the wind became silent and the leaves were stilled. "Mr. Potter, a word if you please," his wife said in her usual haughty manner that had long since endeared her to him. "Yes, Mrs. Potter?" He looked at her, giving her his full attention. His casual, reckless smile made it difficult for his wife to maintain the facade of offense. "Did you mean it tonight when you said you want as many children as we're blessed with?" "Yes, of course," he said, touching one of the floating frozen leaves, its movement not unlike a piece of cloth in water. "Why do you ask, darling?" "You do know that it will be a lot of work, right? I may have to cease my work at the Wizengamot and the school for a time, and obviously we will have to spend even more time together..." "Yes," he said, "I'm aware." "And I presume you think I'll just go along with that because I love you," she said, her pretense crumbling into a cheeky smile as he stepped closer and put one heavy arm around her petite shoulder. "You haven't exactly been trying to convince me otherwise, my love." She blushed brightly. But as she did, he ever so softly placed a hand on her pregnant belly. She gasped quietly: he held her as though he was cradling something sacred. Her heart fluttered so intensely she could hardly look him in the eye. His face was very close to hers, and she found her resolve hung by a thread. And to her blushing annoyance, she saw that he knew it too. "You know, mister, you take me a lot for granted," she said, wrapping her arms around his neck, her lips almost touching his. "How do you know I actually agree with this plan of yours to keep me pregnant forever?" He answered her fake question with a kiss that made her knees so weak he had to hold her up, and for a while that's all that happened until at last he pulled back ever so briefly. "That's how," he whispered. "God I love you," she breathed and they resumed kissing until the sun vanished into a dazzling dusk and the moon's silver light appeared to take its place. #Malfoid
