I often think of the ending of GREEN ROOM, in which a lefty punk whispers "This is a nightmare..." & Patrick Stewart's right-wing Nazi sorrowfully mutters back, "...for us all," as the defining scene of Our Time—that the only thing we can agree on is that this is all so untenable

I remember a professor in grad school giving me around 100+ negative / corrective comments and zero praise on a paper.
Very few in the academy today have the spine, intellect, and care required to give such a generous gift.
I sometimes suspect that, in certain fundamental and humanistic (dare I say "trivial"?) respects, comparing @WYOCathCollege's standards to those of Harvard is an instance of "punching down."

🚨🚨🚨 Parents I’ve got news for you. Even if your child gets extra time, know that EVERY child in that class now gets extra time. Teachers are over trying to figure out who gets what for testing, so they just give the exam and students have as long as they need. Those that finish early usually just read or play on their device. “Timed” classroom tests no longer exist and as far as standardized tests, the data shows that extra time does NOT increase scores for those students. It’s anecdotal. So save yourself the paperwork and hassle and just make sure your child understands how to study for a test. And yes, I know there are specific special education needs but again everyone is getting the accommodation now.
"The number of parents seeking test accommodations for their kids is out of control. And private schools are largely to blame."

There is a real threat to the English language that it becomes 'Globish'; its status as the de-facto lingua franca, spoken far more as a foreign language than by native speakers, stripping it of idiom or expression. English-speaking universities ought to be a bulwark against this
Oxford University has told staff not to use common phrases such as "learn the ropes" or "find your feet" over fears they confuse foreign students, sparking concern at the new scheme of language policing. dailysceptic.org/2026/10/12/…

people who have read 3 poems in the past decade: I've always despised the prose of her verse. Also our culture has rejected Beauty.

Ethical values must be moderated by social values such as being chill, and knowing how to hang. Morality is an aggressive impulse, if unchecked it will rip a community apart.
