"dont reupload someones work onto another website without their permission" is a very simple fucking concept to understand has everyone gone insane.

what an awful time to love a piece of media enough to pour your heart into writing something for it and you see such hateful statements that are all just reiterations of “you made this so we’ll consume it however what we want and you should be grateful we even wanted to read it”

Shout out Derek Jarman and Shirley Russell for the insanely gorgeous set design and costumes for The Devils. Still in awe of how good the movie looked.

ao3 discourse rn is just like [misunderstanding] [assumption] [taken in bad faith] [ignorance of fandom history] [completely false understanding of the law] [no nuance november: the prequel]

ao3 discourse revealing that a lot of people don't understand the difference between downloading for personal use (non-distributing) and uploading to a shared drive without permission from the author (distributing)

I'm not going to get into the discourse as to whether it's okay to post an author's work on gdocs without permission, but this? NOT okay. Do NOT repost an author's work onto another platform, at that point it just becomes theft!

Fandom spaces have been infiltrated by people who want to be popular/ treated like influencers for their contributions as opposed to just people excited to be surrounded by other people who like the same thing they like and want to show them the cool shit they wrote.

I feel like some of yall are losing the plot… THE HISTORY OF FANFICTION IS PASSING STORIES BETWEEN FANS THE STAR TREK FANDOM, FOUNDERS OF FANFICTION, WOULD TYPE FICS ON THEIR LITTLE TYPEWRITERS, PHOTOCOPY THEM, AND PASS THEM AROUND AT CONS

this current fic discourse is so redundant in my eyes. as a writer, we know our work has 100% chance of being archived as soon as it's published. and as a reader, you should respect the author enough to take it down when they ask you to. seems like common sense but apparently not

the reason i hate the idea of someone compiling my works to gdrive is that some of you haven't turned off gemini summaries in your pdf viewer and i do NOT want my writing to be fed into genai over and over again. thx!

i can’t imagine that there are people who have my things downloaded but my god please don’t repost them to google drives. ask me for PDFs!!! happy to provide! they might even come with extra commentary!

If anyone finds the start of the sentence "Mass reporting fan fics to an authority outside of fandom" is familiar it's because the second half of that sentence is "IS HOW AO3 GOT BANNED IN CHINA"

it remains so so funny that CollegeHumor began as a low-budget, frequently mean sketch channel for edgy 20-somethings, and has become a wildly high-budget, play-it-safe improv platform with the most Care Bear audience imaginable
