We’ve just open sourced our Feetech-tuna tool, which is a cross-platform script for managing and commissioning Feetech servos. If you’ve ever used FD.exe, you know why. Here’s the link: iotdesignshop.com/2024/05/15…

Not the most exciting motion path, but the USB control stream to and from the DexHand is working. I am testing a 50hz servo position update loop upstream and 10hz back down at the moment and it all seems healthy. Obviously, the servos don't update that fast, but was curious.

Testing out the latest prints. It's amazing how colour coordinating the materials can make you look like you mean business. This is the new forearm and palm rev going together. Hoping this is our final spin before retolerancing everything for SLS printing.

🎙 In my fourth episode, I am talking to Trent Shumay!
🕹 As a Computer Scientist, he started in the wild gaming industry of the mid90s, working a lot on 3D Rendering.
🤖 Today he runs an independent secret workshop where he's focused on building robotic applications related to manufacturing technology.
We will talk about both worlds and everything in between!

🎙 My 3rd Podcast Guest 🎙 :
He's a robotics research scientist at @BostonDynamics AI Institute and holds a PhD in Computer Science from Brown University - @_ericrosen!
🤝 He aims to create robots that can assist and interact with people in daily life.
🤖 Eric's research focuses on developing algorithms and user-friendly interfaces for robots to learn and plan tasks, making it easier for people to teach and work with them.

A really cool shot of the amazing hybrid of organic supports on high tech #robot parts! Nature and technology merged. #3Dprinting #bambu
This is the Auto-Mate arm. It’s a low cost, ROS-powered industrial #robot arm that we’re helping to build. It’s not complex, is highly durable, and well suited for small industrial applications like #cnc #machinetending.

🤖 What Happens When You Connect a Robot Hand 🖐 to ChatGPT?
He is back - Trent Shumay from @iotdesignshop:
Time for another DexHand demo video!
This time around, he asked the question:
"What would happen if you hooked up the DexHand to ChatGPT and prompted GPT-4 to use the hand as an output device?"
The results were pretty cool ❗
With a basic prompt that gave the hand access to the extension of each finger, and a couple of canned animations (a wave, and a Shaka), GPT was able to use the device to do basic math problems, and to recognize how to perform some common gestures like the peace sign, and the "devil horns". 🤘
There were a few mishaps along the way (like GPT deciding to use the fingers as binary digits at one point) 🤣 🤣 but for the most part, all was resolved with a few tweaks to the prompt.
The rest of the demo was built in Python, using the SpeechRecognizer module, and gTTS (Google Text to Speech) for speech output.
🚀 This was also their official launch of ROS 2 support for the hand.
Trent built the code and a number of ROS 2 packages:
✅ description
✅ gesture control
✅ LLM control and
✅ USB Serial control as ROS nodes
The code has been released to open source as part of this effort:
