Not since discovering the likes of Bill Knott and Thomas Lux have I been so thrilled to read and possess book of modern poetry. Much like the two aforementioned writers, Tom Will manages to pack silliness and seriousness together in a way that makes me want to dress in a three piece suit and hang upside down from monkey bars and recite these poems out loud for everyone on the playground to hear. I was, in fact, reading them to my baby this morning and they were making her giggle, likely because they speak to something other than the head, the sounds of the words moving through the ear canals and heading directly for the heart. Thank you for writing these poems, @TomWill72550626.

They are inventing a day where you're going to make it, and they're calling it tomorrow
Culture that’s so depraved it has people driving around with bumper stickers depicting stick figures engaging in cunnilingus with the words “I ❤️ sushi.”
If we’re ever going to make it we’ll have to start wearing 100% cotton socks again, like at the cultural level.

A few years ago I had a very weird student who gave me a drawing she'd made after seeing me on the bus (we ended up flunking her that year)

You should navigate through your life with boldness and stubbornness to the primary truths and humility, grace, and receptivity to the secondary truths, carefully and obsessively discerning between the two.

I was there 15 years ago, and I watched an old lady—she had to be 96—wearing an oxygen mask, going ham on that spin button. In the time my buddy smoked one cigarette, she furiously whack-a-moled several hundred dollars into the abyss.
I hope she found what she was looking for.
Best Vegas persona is the thin leathery crone with the stringy gray hair who at any time of day or night can be found hunched in the glow of a slot machine chain smoking cigarettes and pecking desperately at the SPIN button, filled with some kind of enraged hope.
