Some of the best Tolkien art before the domination of the Jackson film aesthetic was from Michael Kaluta.

Paul Pope's cartooning transition from THB 1 to issue 6+ is really something to behold.

Milton Caniff was such a beast. Brushpen is a dangerous medium, because it demands that you be excellent at both drawing and painting with the same tool. Mind bending. Brushpen artists are the helicopter pilots of the illustration world. Insane people

One of the most (visually) beautiful Thor comics of all time, in my opinion. I am very proud I got to be a part of it.

Time for another Indie Comic quick review: Skab by @jonbergillus. I came across Jon's art on Twitter and instantly loved it. He's a cartoonist that uses ink expressively: Heavy brushstrokes, rough textures, shadows, and energy, just enough detail but not over-laboring the renderings and stiffening the panels. Black and white as the palette also infuses the panels with more drama and legibility. The other thing I appreciate about Jon's art is his character design. It's not anime. It's not super-hero. But it's simple, clear and memorable. Very inspiring. And then his lettering... I really need to learn how to letter onomatopoeia like this. Skab is a classic sword and sorcery fantasy with a young hero at the center. It blends action and character expertly. My only worry is that there seems to be a lot of plot to unfold and things are only getting warmed up after two issues. I hope Jon has the momentum to finish the story. Highly Recommended!
