Really good small-dollar analysis from @jsscppr politico.com/news/2026/10/27…
Voters discover that elections are not time machines

NEW from @ReporterCioffi — Elon Musk’s enormous promise to give a SpaceX share to every child in America could vaporize billions in taxes.
If the stock were sold at Friday’s price, Musk would owe about $2.6 billion under the 23.8% federal capital gains rate that would apply to essentially the entire market value of the stock, said Will McBride, the chief economist at the Tax Foundation.
“It’s certainly a charitable donation,” said McBride, who sees the accounts as a net positive. “It just comes with substantial tax benefits.”

This may be the funniest thing @RoyCooperNC has ever said: “Cooper on his concerns about running for Senate: “I'll have to admit that I did look up at all of those Senate committee chairs in Washington, and I was thinking I might be a little young for this.” #ncpol
NEW: @victoriaregisk went to Michigan's 7th, where @WeWill2026 is trying to unseat @RepTomBarrett in the most expensive House race in the country.
There she sees how anxiety over healthcare and other costs is emboldening the candidates to go big. Lawrence backs Medicare for All, Barrett wants to dramatically expand health savings accounts. Underscoring it all is a ballot initiative that seems aimed at curtailing the power of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan in elections.
“There’s just an underlying, absolute untenable frustration people feel with the system,” Barrett acknowledged while canvassing a district neighborhood last week.

Republican @RepBrianFitz has cut a moderate brand for himself. He's both someone that Democrats are desperate to knock off (using his Ways and Means committee work as a liability for the GOP tax law) and someone they'd love to work with if he survives.
@maconatkinson spent some time in Fitz's district, and he told her in September he believes in “bringing back the top bracket” for higher earners.
Bob Harvie, the Dem running against him, might be the best shot they have to knock Fitz out. He's been elected county-wide in Bucks twice.

Good way to write this observation: "But Ms. Guilfoyle’s forced resignation also was part of a larger pattern in President Trump’s second term: The prominent figures who have departed the administration, either voluntarily or involuntarily, overwhelmingly are women.
...All were replaced by men."

Everyone wants to tell me how great their office pantry is but after the Bloomberg pantry nothing can surprise me. The Bloomberg pantry is the size of a small regional airport. The Bloomberg pantry has a fresh peanut butter machine and matcha on tap. The Bloomberg pantry makes the Thrive Capital pantry look positively soviet. Its memory will drive you to tears whenever you visit another newsroom
NEW from @ErinDurkin2 and @victoriaregisk — Cassidy is seriously exploring fixes to the No Surprises Act, which has mired insurers and providers in lengthy and costly disputes over bills.
“Believe it or not, there’s common ground there,” said retiring Republican HELP Chair Bill Cassidy. news.bgov.com/bloomberg-gove…
Separately, a top Health Democrat, @FrankPallone, is interested in scrapping the arbitration process in the No Surprises Act altogether, which indicates a starting point in possible lame duck negotiations to fix some of the problems news.bgov.com/bloomberg-gove…

Got a lot of texts last night from pissed off GOP operatives on this story...
"We are out here fighting for our lives and these dudes are in some random ass country made up of too many consonants no one has ever heard of taking hundreds of thousands of dollars while telling all of us to chill out because they’ve got it," one told me.
Trump world is pushing back on their pushback — saying Blair is "working quite literally around the clock on races."

NEW: For the first time, @RepJuliaLetlow reveals to @victoriaregisk that she had a double mastectomy after she was diagnosed as high risk for breast cancer. She's now introducing a breast cancer diagnostic bill, require HHS to determine the best universal breast cancer risk assessment tool and develop a plan to implement it. news.bgov.com/bloomberg-gove…
I can’t believe that in the year of our lord 2026 that PDF forms are still a thing. Like anyone is printing anything.
Also today from @victoriaregisk:
PhRMA bankrolled a new report that points to 340B as helpful to hospital bottom lines. Sure to be a piece of ammunition for the pharmaceutical industry as the drug discount program gets increased congressional scrutiny.

Replying to @kaysteiger
Republicans by far dominate the top spenders this year, mostly by touting the benefits of last year's tax law.
But Democrats are also getting in the game, using official funds to slam ICE and Republican policies that raise health insurance premiums.
