"How long should my cold email sequence should be?"
𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐓𝐀𝐌 + 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞
Let me explain:
From my data, 3 follow-up emails will normally have the same number of positive responses than the initial 1st touchpoint. meaning you get double the opportunities at the cost of sending 4X the emails.
Therefore:
Doubling your positive response rate per lead
But halving positive response rate per email sent
Makes sense so far...
So how should you vary your sequence length according to your circumstances
𝐓𝐀𝐌:
If you have a massive TAM, then you'd be better off ripping short sequences, with 0-1 follow-ups.
Since you have no concern about running out of leads, and will maximise opportunities generated by reaching out to as many as you can.
𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞:
Another thing to note is that % of responses that are positive significantly decreases the longer the sequence
Since prospects realise they're on an automated list, and try "opt out"
-->bigger % of them mark you as spam, hurting your deliverability
Therefore I'd stay away from very long sequences if you prioritise deliverability and don't have a diversified account infrastructure, with several back-up accounts
You can always contact these leads again in 2-6 months with adjusted:
- Offer
- Messaging
- CTA
