A million hours of what? If we’re scaling human demonstrations for robot learning, what should each hour contain? We built S1, our skill capture glove, alongside our robot hand to record joint movements that map to robot targets, with touch and video on the same timeline.

My blog on System 0 in the Astra era: As spatial grounding (S1/2) improves, we need dynamics-grounded controllers (S0) and expressive interfaces that let Astra steer physical interaction. Hope this resonates or sparks disagreement. I’d love your thoughts! haoyangweng.pages.dev/blog/2…

There is a big over-indexing on human hands as the ultimate end-effector design. This is not necessarily true. And the climb towards human-hand parity is long and costly. Video inspired by @maxtitovvv essay on the forest of end-effector design.

“Full-stack robotics” keeps coming up in many of my conversations. Robot builders are moving into models and data. Sensing companies feel pressure to build hands and arms. This is my case against everyone building everything. Decoupled Robotics

A five-finger robot hand looks like a step up from a gripper. Short of full dexterity, it is a step down. A grip is opposition: two surfaces pushing toward one point. Two jaws on a single motor do that for an egg or a box. A hand with too few joints never brings fingertip to thumb. In 2019 OpenAI trained a robot hand for 13,000 simulated years. It solved the hardest Rubik's Cube scrambles 20% of the time. Full dexterity costs that much practice. Five fingers show how human a robot looks, not how well it holds.
Takes on end effectors are too binary. People love to claim: "grippers are better than hands!" "tendons are superior!" or "direct drive wins." But its much more nuanced than that...

Got it through customs late last night and worked the graveyard shift but we got there. Documentation coming in a bit. Now I need a sleep.

After six years in stealth, Atomic Machines is out. Our mission: on-demand, universal command of matter. First beachhead: the Matter Compiler, an AI-native manufacturing system that builds working micro-machines from code alone. No per-product tooling. No process development. Different code, different machine.

I’ve spoken with a lot of buyers and producers in robotics data over the last two weeks. Many of you should know each other. Tell me what you’re collecting, buying, or researching: data.bycrux.com I’ll make an intro if there’s a fit.

So where will you new hands fall on this curve @adcock_brett @Figure_robot? Wasn't too impressed by the F03 hands. X article here: xitter.cf/maxtitovvv/status/2107…
I’m bullish on embracing the complexity and building really capable human-like hands F.04 hands are 🥰

Interesting to think of this on terms of how flexibly one can create opposition. A good read

The industry has over-indexed on humanoid end-effectors. There is nothing that guarantees that the human hand is the ultimate design. Phenomenal read for a quick lay of the gripper/end effector land.
