Since it's the start of summer (and I have a larger Greek following here than on the other site), I'm here just to post this link. DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. If you spend time near water, you need to read this. Spread the word to people you know slate.com/technology/2013/06…
Well, I really couldn’t be arsed until now, but the time has come to migrate to the other place. I’m anonymous there but if we’re Twitter friends, DM me if you’d like to follow.
Have people forgotten that the CIA’s inept attempts to assassinate Castro made them a laughing stock?
Something I hadn't thought about for a while, but used to think about a lot: I wonder how differently things might have turned out if John Smith hadn't died of a heart attack in 1994.

If the Holocaust means anything, if the Nazi genocide of millions has anything to teach us, it is that we must defend the right of fascist football hooligans to chant Death to Arabs in any city they go.

Every football fan who sees this - there are many millions - understands it is a clear-cut case of Chat Shit, Get Banged. What are those people going to think today about the politicians and media outlets telling them a very, very different story? Will their trust level rise.

A few points on this:
1. Not THE reason Harris lost. Maybe not even A reason she lost.
2. Not ideological, from @IsabellaMWeber & @owenslindsay1 to @MichaelRStrain have argued the same.
3. Would be true even if Harris had won.

if you are someone who was able to overlook the genocide and cast a vote for kamala harris, then you already understand how a conservative was able to overlook Trump's extremism to vote for him.

Me (ever the naive optimist): well maybe the horrible election result will at least mean the end of cringe liberal fan fiction.

Donald Trump's victory is a crushing defeat for the global elite and should be celebrated. Read more in my weekly article: letters.jacobreesmogg.com/p/…

In the interest of calling out nonsense before it becomes conventional wisdom: Joe Biden in 2020 was maybe the only Democratic candidate in recent memory who ran their general election well further to the left of their initial positioning in the primaries. nymag.com/intelligencer/arti…

Guy gets his platonic campaign: messaging is shaped by his ‘popularism’ confederate David Shor, Harris almost never mentions her identity, he gets yimby rhetoric, police and border demagoguery, microtargeted consultant speak—his ideal campaign!—and he’s still blaming the wokes!

How did it come to this?
Some thoughts on the tragedy of Germany's "Ampel" (traffic-light 🔴🟢🟡) SPD-Green-FDP coalition, and on what must come next:

So, the Fed brought inflation under control by hiking interest rates as much as it did because it led to economic actors anchoring their forward-looking inflation expectations, but those economic actors just elected Trump because of high inflation. Have I got this straight?

It seems cosmically unfair but Truman’s slogan If you want to live like a Republican vote Democratic, has a corollary. Once you live like a Republican you’ll vote Republican. For Dem WHs, low unemployment (1952, 1968, 2000, 2016) means GOP social issues attract swing voters.
NEW: Pres. Biden faces broad negative ratings at start of campaign, Post-ABC poll finds. His approval rating slips to a new low (36 pct); more Americans than not doubt his mental acuity; he trails against Trump & DeSantis. By @danbalz @sfcpoll @EmGusk: washingtonpost.com/politics/…
I know it’s a little trite to say it at this point, but it really is quite remarkable that the current monetary policy orthodoxy carries Keynes’s name.
Watched the Lego Movie 2 with the kids yesterday, and my god, that song really does get stuck inside your head.

🇪🇺 The most depressing European chart ever: long-term growth expectations are down to a all-time low of less than 1.3%.
Draghi: "Europe faces a choice between paralysis, exit or integration. Exit has been tried. Paralysis is becoming untenable. Integration is our only hope left."
This is such a bleak take. Heaven forbid that we should build nice things.
If your train line is winning one of the most prestigious architectural prizes in the world you’ve probably spending too much money on building it.
