Hawala moves $200–$400 billion a year. No interest. No central bank. No licensed intermediary. Classical scholars validated it for centuries. Nobody calls it haram. So why does Bitcoin get a different standard?

Two decades in Islamic finance. Closed-minded by nature, by his own account. Then he admitted the industry was deeply flawed, and that he'd been contributing to the flaw. He left in 2017. That takes humility. Would your ego let you admit if you were wrong? @harris_irfan

Most people think banks lend out deposits. The Bank of England disagrees: when a bank lends, it creates new money. Same in the US and Canada. Interest on money made from nothing is an even worse form of RIBA. Did you know that 97% of money in circulation is created from debt?

Believe there's no future and you live for today: gamble, chase pump-and-dumps, put it on the credit card. Someone profits from every one of those. Believing you'll answer for this life is the longest time horizon there is. What's your time horizon? @SimonDixonTwitt

#JummahMubarak "Should I buy Bitcoin? Will it go up?" A former Islamic banker's answer: "I don't care." What he cares about is whether money can fix a broken economy. Price is the least interesting thing about it. What should we be asking instead? @harris_irfan

"Just go back to gold." We had gold. Then paper claims on the gold, and when honoring them got inconvenient, the standard was dropped. Hard money that relies on law gets changed by law. Can a gold standard built on PAPER PROMISES ever succeed? @SimonDixonTwitt

The Bitcoiner you picture is 25 and chasing a 100x. This one is a former Islamic banker who calls himself very conservative. He backs Bitcoin because he's risk averse: he wants ordinary people's long-term savings protected. Is Bitcoin the risk, or the hedge? @harris_irfan

He bought Bitcoin to watch the number go up. Then he studied it, and in the same stretch became Muslim. He kept seeing Islam's economics in it. Once he saw it, he couldn't unsee it. Does studying Bitcoin strengthen your faith? @yourbtcguide @muslimbtcsummit @Islamchannel
