Now is a good time to change passwords that you've reused or that have appeared in data breaches, get a password manager, turn on 2FA with an authenticator app, and turn on automatic updates. This weekend. Carve out some time and do it today.

Easy, popular, and free policy idea to just ban this
The amount of AI images in property listings... I mean you just can't hate realtors enough.

this rips. why is the australian judiciary so much better at making technology policy than federal politicians or officials
Big news: Fortnite is coming back to the App Store in Australia tomorrow! Today the Australia Federal Court told Apple to open up iOS after finding they violated competition law. Here’s what’s changing in Australia in March 2027: • iOS will be open to third party app stores • Australian users will be able to download apps directly from developers • Developers will be able to offer only alternative payment systems and Apple can’t require devs to offer Apple’s IAP, without charging junk fees • Apple cannot block developers from pointing users outside apps to make purchases • Apple is barred from charging junk fees on purchases made in third party app stores This is great news for developers worldwide and iOS users in Australia who will benefit from an open mobile app ecosystem.

this is a really good video from @sqs on what it looks like to build ai native software using ai in the ai age with a small team (and a lot of tokens) youtube.com/watch?v=kQguG4YS… - I cannot recommend it enough

It's extraordinary that on this website I've seen endless commentary, report and polls on how compelling a certain architectural style will save British housing, and virtually nothing on actually reforming the planning system.
I'm in @WorksInProgMag's letters section this week, arguing that British YIMBYism's preoccupation with beauty is a massive waste of time and resources. Beauty is marginal. There are bigger problems to solve in British housing—they're just all a bit less sexy.

Give me either Portuguese or Singaporean vice policy. This anglo middle ground where the average person is punished while we have significant vice related crime and disorder is the worst of all worlds
I didn't realise this was the law 😭

the transition from “using an LLM to help write array syntax is a bit embarrassing” to “everyone is a mech pilot and the LLM is the only way they interact with the machine” happened really fast eh

we’re already at the point where having to use a browser and click through menus is frustratingly slow compared to just directly typing or dictating the outcome you want the machine to accomplish

This seems bad and not a technology we should build
There is simply no future where humans continue to do economically useful work for much longer. Your choice is at best between various flavors of “ASI let’s humans have fun and play make believe”

This is not just true in NYC. Thanks to globalisation, there is a large cohort of young people who know more about NYC mayoral politics than they do about their own jurisdiction and wish they could join the DSA
Fascinating how many interesting, very smart young people (young men particularly) interested in policy I've met in NYC who refer to themselves as socialists or DSA-adjacent, but when you talk to them they seem to have at most, the views of market-friendly social democrats

Tangential thought: in the same way you can "Harvest Now, Decrypt Later" for when quantum computing breaks current encryption, surely there is current public internet text that will be useful for future de-anonymisation with cheap abliterated open models
Opus 5.5 is the first model that was able to identify me as the author of the first few pages of an unfinished novel I started years ago.

If you would like good housing policy, cast your vote for the New Zealand Labour Party on or before Saturday, 7th November 2026. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

a lot of genderslop dating discourse on the TL today - almost all of it is garbage for the same reason reading advice about e.g. public speaking is: you’re trying to solve a System 1 problem with System 2 thinking
