"Brigham Young wasn't racist"
Brigham Young was not the racist, bombastic jerk you think he was. Much of the distaste people have for Brigham Young comes from transcripts of speeches he gave in the Journal of Discourses. For years, many assumed that JD accurately represented Brigham's words, ideas, and tone. But new research has shown that while the "Lion of the Lord" was certainly direct, he was not as extreme as we've been led to believe. LaJean Purcell Carruth is today's leading expert on Utah Pittman shorthand. As she has studied the original transcripts of Brigham's speeches, she's noticed the author of JD took a lot of "artistic license" with Brother Brigham's original words-- building up his hyperbole, changing questions he asked into definitive statements, etc-- all to make him sound much more extreme and demanding than he actually was. She became so frustrated, that a joke, she penned this poem: "There once was a man named George Watt Who could improve Brigham Young (so he thought). So he took out words here, And he added words there, And his accuracy was not what it ought!" If you want to read the specifics on the discrepancies she's found, search for her name on YouTube-- she's given several presentations and interviews going over her scholarship. A good starting point would be one of her @ldsfair presentations: fairlatterdaysaints.org/confโ€ฆ So next time you hear some crazy offensive comment Brigham Young supposedly made, maybe take it with a bit of a grain of salt.

โ€œโ€ฆthe same spirit is in the sunโ€ฆ โ€ฆthe same spirit, existing in all these worlds, could converse with the mind of manโ€ฆโ€ Orson Pratt
๐ŸšจBREAKING๐Ÿšจ: Scientist says the sun may be conscious, intelligent plasma clouds may transmit semantic information across outer space, and ball lightning seems to behave intelligently, mimicking biological life. Rupert Sheldrake, a biologist known for constructing morphic field theory, which involves inherited learning across generations of species beyond genetics and epigenetics, says organized plasma might support a mind without a brain. He points to magnetic plasma filaments stretching between galaxies and describes a theory from independent researcher Robert Temple: a cloud at the L5 Lagrange point between the Earth and Moon might be intelligent enough to return radio signals seconds after transmission (explaining the โ€œLong Delay Echoโ€ phenomenon in the early 20th century at the advent of the radio). Sheldrakeโ€™s other investigations into morphic fields, consciousness outside the body and โ€œthe sense of being stared atโ€ have drawn attention from British intelligence. He has long documented the idea of โ€œscopeasthesiaโ€ (the sense of being stared at) by subjects in controlled experimental conditions. He says a visitor from MI5, Britain's domestic intelligence agency, asked whether terrorists could learn to sense security cameras. His theory of morphic resonance goes further, proposing that nature inherits patterns of behavior across time and distance. Sheldrake cites rat water-maze studies in which rats at Edinburgh and Melbourne began at the level reached by Harvard rats after generations of โ€œtrainingโ€ to follow the correct route in a maze. He interprets this as possible evidence of shared memory. To illustrate how invisible fields can influence chance, he uses magnets to change the distribution of steel balls falling through a Galton board. Sheldrake wants practical tests of these unusual abilities. He proposes a global app collecting reports of strange animal behavior before earthquakes, and is surveying firefighters who say they wake moments before unpredictable alarms. He believes he can construct a workable model for presentiment that may become practical for specific use cases. Full conversation live now. youtu.be/uvRzhb2Pef4

To my delight, Evola's response IS included in the recent English translation by Fulgur Press. I will be incorporating his comments into my essay. While Carrouges mythologizes Breton into an occult master, Evola identifies Surrealism as more or less a secular larp.
Apparently Breton also corresponded with Julius Evola for his survey on "Art Magic," but as far as I'm aware Evola's response is only available in French editions of L'Art Magique. I am tempted to buy it to see what he said since Evola, like Breton, was once a Dadaist.
