Was there ever a public report on how the google.com cert came to be issued by NIC CA under CCA? Don't expect anything here. NIC stopped operating and CCA kept them listed as a Licensed CA for another 4 years: web.archive.org/web/20180106… (1/2)

NIC CA stopped operating all together after that incident, yet CCA had it licensed for years after that incident: xitter.cf/captn3m0/status/211372… I don't think there is even a report.

This eMudhra thing is shedding light on so many shitty practices in #DigitalIndia Shared SSL cert for 3 websites that aren't even hosted on the same server. Cost saving measures in the age of free SSL certs? h/t @LiveFromALounge for making me look up ftittp.mha.gov.in/fti/login

Dr. Tyagi, the government promised an investigation of the 2014 fake NIC certificates episode, but it still has not published its findings. Will you publish the findings of that investigation? If not, how can we trust the Root CCA framework? thejeshgn.com/2014/07/11/ind…

Contrary to the implicit mental models of many on this website, cybercriminals aren't the security-engineer Waluigis of Stanford-educated big tech engineers, or the criminal analogs of a16z-backed AI pentesting startups. They're generally less talented, recruited from middle-income countries with weak legal oversight and fewer legal tech job options, and struggle with arrests, sanctions, retaining talent, and stable access to AI inference. Ransomware took years to become a scaled business under these conditions, and AI-native organized criminal syndicates that fully leverage the power of AI to scale may take awhile too. Nation-states, meanwhile, are quick to adopt AI for vulnerability research and exploit development, but historically slow to deeply retool military operations with new technologies. And potentially devastating agentic cyber swarms may become weapons in their arsenals alongside e.g. ballistic missiles that they possess but don't immediately use. So to those calling php2shell "the worst day in cyber ever" and expecting immediate spikes in cyber damages: there isn't the direct relationship between new capabilities and new damages you're imagining. This is good news, obviously. It means defenders have time to prepare (and we should be shouting from the rooftops that we're in a defense-advantaged interregnum, currently). Huge risks are approaching but at the pace of technology diffusion into less innovative parts of the world economy and state sector, not at the pace of AI capability growth. Because India's CBDC was built coz of Crypto FOMO, it uses blockchain as L1. However, if all of it goes up in flame, RBI is still liable, and by that logic - NPCI is the sole arbiter of what is a valid token because they are the ones signing it.

Chaining to Web-PKI increases risk. With a privately signed cert - you can have controls (signing ceremonies) Here, RBI is authorizing all of NPCI's infrastructure team (which can manage DNS) the authority to issue a new cert which could potentially sign tender in India.

For no reason whatsoever, these are signed by a Global CA authority: crt.sh/?q=psosigner.npci.org… These aren't used for TLS, and shouldn't chain up to Digicert. The cert in the current applications are expired, but the code just ignores it entirely.

And yes, same goes for India's CBDC infra (eRupee) but is anyone using or auditing it at all?

Since the entire internet cares about critical certificates today, a reminder @UPI_NPCI has been running on an expired cert since Sep 2025. Issued by IDRBT, which is now managing all of *.bank.in.

In Phaedrus, Socrates warns against writing since it leads to forgetfulness. Funnily, while Baron mentions 'Preface to Plato' in her article, she forgets to mention Plato's Phaedrus.

Ah! You see, this miserable little document, this so-called date-me doc, is our era’s most honest pornography. It pretends to be romance, but what is it really? It is no longer the trembling hand on paper, the confession of desire. It is a spreadsheet of desire. “I am ready. I am six foot four. I have done the work.” What work? Love is precisely the place where work collapses into failure. You study and then you fail the exam. And look at this language. “Highly agentic, emotionally warm.” Beautiful nonsense. Freedom, yes, but domesticated. Agency, yes, but pointing politely towards him. For Hegel, love is the risky collision of two freedoms. Here, there is no risk. She must arrive pre-formatted. Then the farce reaches ecstasy. “If she does not appear, I will pursue single fatherhood.” Magnificent. Chance is canceled. Eros becomes procedure. The miracle of two gazes across a smoky room is replaced by paperwork and a receipt. The objet petit a is now a literal baby routed around the Other. And of course, the “monogamish” clause. Pure ideology. Fidelity with a footnote. Like Coke Zero: love without sugar, passion without calories. He wants the experience of devotion, but sterilized of danger. The document offers no asylum from loneliness. It is loneliness, meticulously formatted, hyperlinked, and begging for comments. He does not whisper “I love you.” He says “I am prepared to love you, conditionally, pending review.”

The same @ConnectCOAI is behind the disastrous decision of the govt to make WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, etc., follow SMS's security model of SIM-binding in order to prevent fraud (even though SMS is actually worse for fraud)! #privacy #surveillance xitter.cf/ConnectCOAI/status/199…
COAI supports DoT’s SIM-binding mandate, a big step to cut spam, fraud & anonymous messaging. Telecom operators are committed to seamless rollout. Also urging: use SMS-OTP for financial transactions to keep authentication safe and traceable. #COAI #DigitalSafety #CyberSecurity #SafePayments #SIMBinding

Look, I'm glad that the govt seems to be serious about tackling cyber fraud. It's a big menace. But none of the steps they're taking (SIM-binding for messages, mandating Sanchar Saathi app) actually address the problem. It's security theatre, whether govt realizes it or not.
