Scientists designed a peptide to fight Alzheimer's According to a new study in PNAS Nexus, researchers developing HAEE, a four-amino-acid peptide designed to interfere with amyloid buildup, detected a naturally occurring version in all 150 healthy participants tested. Average blood levels were roughly 50% lower in 200 people clinically diagnosed with Alzheimer's. The finding opens up two potential research paths: using HAEE levels as a blood biomarker and investigating the peptide as a treatment candidate. This was a blood-sample study, so whether administering HAEE actually helps people with Alzheimer's remains unproven.

A once-weekly peptide pill targeting amylin + GLP-1 + GIP + glucagon is in development. According to Ascletis, its oral amylin candidate ASC36o showed a roughly 7-day half-life and 6-8% oral bioavailability in monkeys. The company is also developing combination tablets that pair it with peptides targeting the other three receptors. ASC36o is already in a U.S. Phase 1 trial, with human pharmacokinetic data expected by the end of 2026. The four-target combination remains preclinical, but the goal is to deliver all four mechanisms in a single weekly tablet.
