30 years ago, Jim Collett and I jumped in my Alfasud and drove from A'dam to Berlin – to witness the fall of the Wall, the liberation of a people, and the end of the Cold War. (That's me on the left scaffold at Checkpoint Charlie.) Quite the party.

🪖We’re being swatted like flies” — 𝗥𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿 📌 One of Russia’s most prominent war reporters, Alexander Sladkov, has just published a brutally honest reflection on the state of Russia’s campaign in Ukraine. His words echo not propaganda — but strategic disillusionment. ▪️ “We’re being beaten… I feel sorry for us.” ▪️ “The navy doesn’t even know where to hide.” ▪️ “We’re being hit by boats with BEC drones, UAVs, even from space…” ▪️ “Strike or be struck.” 📉 Tactical paralysis | 🚫 Strategic dead ends Sladkov paints a picture of a military overwhelmed by Ukrainian innovation and Russian confusion: ⚠️ The “Black Sea Fleet” hides in fear ⚠️ The air force is outdated and irrelevant ⚠️ Russia’s military-industrial base can’t keep up with drone warfare ⚠️ Commanders are trapped in the logic of “keep striking” — with no outcome in sight 🧠 “We must let the war think for us” — a confession of strategic bankruptcy Sladkov denounces the Kremlin's framing of the war as a swamp of false logic: 💬 “Strike those who think differently… sentence them to traitors? There’s no end to that.” 💬 “So let the war think instead. Maybe it will wash away all doubts.” 🔥 Why it matters: When Moscow’s own propagandists abandon the narrative, it’s a signal. Ukraine’s asymmetric warfare — especially its naval and drone strikes — isn’t just inflicting damage. It’s collapsing Russian morale from the inside. 🛑 This is not just about frontlines — it’s about mindset. Once that breaks, no number of missiles will fix it. (From Tim DeZitter on LI)

Fourth, Trump has inflated the amount of US aid sent to Ukraine while ignoring the fact that 90% of Ukraine-related spending stays in the country, creating thousands of jobs. His actions have hurt the US defense industry, causing defense stocks to plummet. 9/25

Good question ⬇️
Replying to @vtchakarova
I keep asking—why does Europe still have no plan? Three years into full-scale war, and more importantly, ten years of Trump in the political arena. They’ve been apoplectic and paralyzed, obsessing over Trump and Vance’s violations of gentlemanly discourse—yet remain strategically effete where it matters.

True.
Alright, let’s break it down once again, for those who are new to this discussion: 1. Russia didn’t start a war of annihilation because Ukraine wanted NATO – Ukraine wants NATO because Russia is waging a war of annihilation. 2. Ukraine is not fighting Russia because it ‘was wrong to trust America’ – Ukraine is fighting because Russia is trying to wipe it off the map, and Ukraine is doing everything humanly possible to survive as a free, independent nation instead of being crushed under a totalitarian fascist regime. 3. Russia’s so-called ‘peace deal’ has never been anything but Ukraine’s destruction and absorption. That’s not on Zelensky, Boris Johnson, or even George Soros. The only one responsible is Vladimir Putin’s fascist regime, which launched the biggest war in Europe since Adolf Hitler to reconquer its former colony. Not everything in this world is some grand conspiracy theory for decadent Westerners obsessed with self-hatred to the point of blindly worshipping foreign dictators that undermine the West.

I’m confused. For years people complained about excessively stringent paylines @NIH reduced budgets for labs & general clunkiness of the system but now they don’t want an audit of budget allocation to reduce non-research excesses because the audit is done by guys in their 20s?

It’s been the same process not several times but virtually the entire time. It’s shocking and exhausting. Everything Ukraine asks for gets approved, only 1-2 years later, after thousands more have died and when Russia is fully prepared.
It's been the same process several times in this war: >White House insists something can't be done >Multiple excuses, some contradictory >Lots of people die >White House suddenly decides that the thing being asked is in fact possible after all, usually after russia's had time to adapt

However you feel about the election results it seems obvious that: 1. the Internet has replaced TV as a source of information; 2. the Frontier is open as it has not been since Henry the Navigator; 3. innovation has become more important than legacy wealth.

To “save democracy” the Democrats: • Installed a presidential candidate without a primary • Tried to imprison the leading opposition candidate • Attempted to censor social media and anyone who strayed from the official narrative • Openly advocated packing the courts and changing judicial rules The American people were expected to buy this. They didn’t. Get the full analysis of the disconnect between the ruling class and the American public in @micsolana’s new piece on Pirate Wires👇

Looking at German electricity this week you could be forgiven for forgetting they've spent FIVE HUNDRED BILLION € on a renewable energy "transition" They're just straight up fossil powered! With high costs, high carbon, and a shrinking economy. I labeled it for you below.

🚨 BREAKING: SpaceX's ‘Marslink’—High-Speed Internet from Mars to Earth! In a move that feels straight out of sci-fi, SpaceX has proposed “Marslink,” an adaptation of its Starlink satellite network, to deliver internet connectivity on Mars. Presented to NASA, Marslink aims to establish a high-speed data relay system—capable of transmitting 4 Mbps or more—across 1.5 astronomical units, the distance between Earth and Mars. The concept envisions multiple satellites in Mars orbit, leveraging Starlink’s advanced laser communication tech to maintain a constant, near-instantaneous data flow between planets. This network could serve Mars missions, allowing real-time images and data streams from Mars to Earth, as well as supporting future ground operations and Mars orbit assets. Source: PCMag
