The thing is. And this was a major 🔑 for me several years ago, in thinking about the podcast, is that communists are obsessed with capitalism. Some of them are so obsessed that they might even secretly love it. Whereas capitalists rarely spend any time thinking about it.
I love the Odd Lots podcast, but I could do without the commie gobbledygook that occasionally appears in the programming

“The purpose of mathematics, as a research discipline, is not “prove theorems”. It’s not not proving theorems, but I would say that its purpose is more like “develop [our] understanding of mathematics”.”
Some people are confused why mathematicians say OAI's drop was the "death" of a field, or figure that it's death insomuch as a bunch of university professors lost their overpaid hobby of proving theorems. That's a misunderstanding: the damage's real. Blog: blog.ohaithe.re/post/8299720…

1/ Mind blowing story about Trump accounts by @RichardRubinDC & @ashleaebeling. Under Treasury's new rules, a company can donate stock to a child's Trump account; parents can’t pick the stocks, reject donated shares, or sell for 5 years. Some possible implications...

Even more so than in most industries, tech people seem to assume the universality of the niche problems they experience, which is why so many of them struggle to have a second good idea after the one that made them rich.
What’s with these guys and restaurant reservations? What’s this market, $30M a year? Why is every AI sales pitch now obsessed with restaurant reservations? how many people are struggling with this problem on a weekly basis? A few thousand at most? Enough with the reservations!

We apply this framework to make sense of the production and use of polygenic indices, which occurs in a field featuring tensions between both scientific autonomy vs. heteronomy and technological conservatism vs. provocation.

While our focus in the paper is on genetic technologies, we argue that this framework might be useful for theorizing topics such as AI or causal inference, in which technologies broadly intersect with different forms of expertise.
