re: human dignity as the commerce clause of the church, every political question becomes a moral question when you claim it involves human dignity, thus placing it under the special competence of bishops and removing it from the domain of the laity.

I’m not personally clear e.g. on why the USCCB felt the need to file an amicus brief in a gun control case, but you won’t be surprised to hear it involves human dignity.

What exactly is the remedy supposed to be for people who violated US immigration law, ignored a court’s final order of removal, and possibly made fraudulent statements when claiming asylum?
Someone who is not a citizen is in the country with a removal order, and they are working and raising a family and haven't committed any crimes unrelated to their immigration status. What should we do? Nothing. We should do nothing. jessesingal.substack.com/p/y…

Jack Bogle taught me this was the ideal portfolio construction.
72% of Anthropic's revenue is from US customers. That's a lot.

+Eckman has wisely discerned not to go full +Cupich and show Catholics how he believes you should engage with politics. Platitudes all the way down.
Bishop Eckman of Pittsburgh: “For us as Catholics, the voting booth is not a place where we set our faith aside. The Gospel asks us to love God and to love our neighbor, and how we vote is one of the ways we carry that love into public life. So, I ask you not to vote out of habit, party loyalty, or self-interest alone. Ask instead which candidate will serve the good of everyone, especially those who have the least voice.”

I was unaware my personhood gave me automatic access to legislative representation in whatever country I happen to be in at the moment

We are this close to someone saying it violates human dignity to invite a person to believe in Christ.
LATEST: Cardinal Vesco says the Catholic Church is “not there to convert” The Archbishop of Algiers said: “We are the Church of this people. Not a proselytising Church, not a Church that is there to convert, but a Church that aspires to be one of the components of this people.” He called proselytism “poison” because it treats another person’s religion as false, and argued Christians should choose fraternity over seeing themselves as a “besieged fortress.” Read the full report at @RealAdVaticanum advaticanum.com/article/card…

USCCB MRS staffers see this and think the underlying problem is that long term residency isn’t handed out to all and sundry at the border.
Ya'll, this is nuts. Hundreds - that's right, HUNDREDS - of armed robberies between 2022 and 2024 weren't real. They were staged by the "victims" as part of a massive immigration fraud scheme to secure U-visas for themselves and their families. cwbchicago.com/2026/10/buckt…

Whatever the neo-Bernadin framework a faction of bishops hope to bring back, it’s not going to happen. The bishops’ collective moral credibility was shot in 2002, and double-tapped in 2018. Progressive policies dressed in human dignity drag are unwanted, and now are not credible.

Rereading Girard’s I See Satan & am always stopped short at chapter on Modern Concern for Victims: “Victims most interesting to us are always those who allow us to condemn our neighbors.” I’ve never felt more seen.

before the “prophetic voice” of the USCCB decided to go all in on defending immigration fraud and labor arbitrage, it was most notable for hiding its rapists from legal consequences. I don’t believe we’re suddenly in danger of the bishops losing their way.

The bishops later clarified they were praying the imprecatory psalms while the photo was taken.

Feverishly searching for Catholic extradition treaty countries that list blasphemy as a crime.
"We're saving Christianity. We've saving God. We've saving the family unit. We're saving this nation. I mean, DEI is out of the window…” - Eric Trump, son of President Donald Trump. @atrupar.

The USCCB doesn’t care if you fête someone who funds abortion. We can tell because the Pillar hasn’t posted an anonymously sourced article disapproving of +Cupich, featuring sources close to +Coakley.

Personally, I’m in awe at Cupich’s office. Brilliant chess move to say criticizing a pro-abortion Jewish man is anti-Semitic. But the photo kerfuffle should deeply embarrass the hacks who pushed it and any +hacks who told us they were grievously sorry.

This is incredibly discrediting to all involved. Fake outrage by small pond media, fake protestations of being an utter naïf by clergy. Wake me up when any bishop apologizes for appearing on the same altar as Cardinal Mahoney.
Milwaukee’s Archbishop Grob: “I feel a heavy sadness, not only over the pain I caused, but also for the fact that something so sacred to a group of religious leaders, prayer to our Heavenly Father, would be manipulated in that way. We came in good faith to try to work for the betterment of our fellow human beings, to ease their suffering, to build up the common good, and to pray with a president, not to pose for a political photo opportunity to benefit the few. We should never have been put in that position by the White House. I did not go without reservations. I wish I had heeded them. Please know that I have heard these concerns, understand how I caused them, and I apologize for any damage my actions have done.” archmil.org/posts/a-public-a…

The Vatican writing, "Especially in the West, there is a progressive loss of the collective memory of rites and ritual practices in favor of a highly radical form of individualism.... [T]he Church’s rich spiritual heritage represents a precious and inexhaustible resource."

If you know Messrs. JD or Ed, you can apparently launder your resentments through Catholic media while staying anonymous. Take note, everyone!
