I and @anahita_sachdev travelled into remote tribal Madhya Pradesh to probe the deaths of at least 32 children since May. Most were Baiga, one of India’s 75 “particularly vulnerable tribal groups”. Measles and malaria were the illnesses blamed. Our report. bbc.com/news/articles/cmn9wr…

Crude oil prices hit $115 despite US claims that the Strait of Hormuz is open. Remember, Brent crude was at $72 a barrel before the US and Israel started this war against Iran on Feb 28. And if Israel and the US resume strikes now, Iran will retaliate, pumping up prices further. Saudi Arabia is already at war with its critical infra under attack. We in #India, already hit by high energy prices, are going to get affected more by this madness by netanyahu and trump. Retail inflation is already at a 22-month high. Interest rates have started rising. Petrol and diesel prices will go up further in the coming days.

Maturity arrives as soon as we can laugh, rather than fret, over our insufficiencies, or those of others. Growing up means throwing one's arms around the imperfection of almost everything.

A big uncomfortable takeaway from the Sept trade data is that India's software & services exports have started slowing, probably due to A.I.! Sept services surplus was down 10% yoy and April-Sept services surplus was up only 4%. Our goods exports are doing fabulously (up 23% in Sept), so goods trade deficit is declining -down 8.5% yoy in Sept. But it's still a deficit of $30bn for Sept & $177.6 bn for Apr-Sept. That deficit needs to be filled. Slowing services exports, probably due to A.I. is worrying. @FinMinIndia @RBI @CafeEconomics

Lakhs of doubtful voters in Delhi will now be 'certified' for the final voter roll without submitting any documents. BLOs have no option but to sign off. The rush to verify voters has turned the entire SIR upside down. @ShubhangiJourno reports. 1/5 reporters-collective.in/trc/…

The widest-reaching impact of @IndianExpress' Election Commission investigation yet. 10 days after our investigation into the rupture inside the Election Commission, the poll watchdog has told all 20 states where SIR is over to run a “special drive” to bring back voters “left out” of the rolls. State CEOs have been told to identify voters deleted as unmapped or for “logical discrepancy” and that BLOs should go house to house to help bring them back. They will use Form 6 to apply for inclusion of such “left out” voters. And the question added to Form 6 in July, asking whether your parents were on the last SIR roll, which one Commissioner called “unauthorised/illegal,” now applies only during the “SIR phase.” What does that mean? In the 20 states where SIR is over, “left out” voters and first-time voters will use the plain statutory Form 6, without the question seeking details of their family’s link to the last SIR.
