Two maps that illustrate how little the construction of a 29B6 Container over-the-horizon backscatter (OTH-B) radar in Kaliningrad changes things in terms of Russia's ability to monitor aircraft movements west of Russia's primary western frontier. The maps depict the notional coverage of two 29B6 OTH-B radars configured for 360- degree coverage over 800-3000 km and are intended to draw attention to the blind spot resulting from the skip zone. The existing 29B6 radar in Mordovia already offered extensive coverage of most of Europe as well as Ukraine.
The Russian bistatic 29B6 Container over-the-horizon-backscatter (OTH-B) radar in Kaliningrad is the kind of system that is going to be widely misunderstood by people unfamiliar with OTH-B radar technology. It is not nothing, but is also not as big a deal as some seem to think.

Imagine being a CEO of an US energy company and thinking that you work with close associates of the Trump family, only to find out that behind them is a sanctioned Russian company, really pulling the strings. This happened in Alaska. Polar Train LNG's CEO, Joel Riddle, stepped down after finding out that the Russian "Novatek" company, which is under US sanctions, has been involved in a $25 billion energy project in Alaska. The CEO thought that he was working with Gentry Beach, a close friend of Donald Trump Junior. Reportedly, that project was also discussed between Witkoff and Jared Kushner when they were with Putin. The White House admitted that the project was talked about "briefly". We are witnessing the greatest corruption scandal the USA has ever witnessed. It all leads to Trump, his family and the Russians, and apparently they were even ready to sell riches of Alaska to the Russians. The people in Alaska just need to look over to Russia, where the richest regions in terms of minerals and hydrocarbon resources have been stripped-mined, transferring all the wealth to Moscow and Saint Petersburg and leaving a scarred landscape in extreme poverty. That is the result of rampant corruption. We are starting to see more details why Trump and his friends are trying so strongly to bully Ukraine into surrender. This is most certainly only the tip of the iceberg.

I think troposcatter coming back is the right call. SATCOM is a single point of failure, and 60 Mbit/s at 60km without LoS from a man-portable box is genuinely solid. Cold War tech refusing to retire, respect. Redundancy done right.

🇩🇪Germany plans to procure jkdefence.de's COMET terminals reviving Cold War troposcatter tech, giving Bundeswehr over-the-horizon links up to 60km far when LoS is blocked & satcom denied. Reported specs: 25.4 kg, 4.4-5GHz, ≤60 km & 5-60 Mbps. Deal could exceed €200m.

You're right, @elonmusk. Someone has grown very rich off money flowing from Ukraine. I work in Starlink supply to Ukraine, so I see these numbers firsthand. Ukrainians bought 117,000 terminals in September alone (~$42M), plus monthly subscriptions for each one. And that's just official commercial imports. Not counting government contracts, donor-funded deliveries, direct orders from your website or grey imports. No laundry machines needed. It goes straight to SpaceX.
What’s actually going on in Ukraine is that there is a massive incentive difference between the elites and the people. The former have grown very rich off the hundreds of billions flowing to Ukraine, while the latter’s children are conscripted to die in trenches.

Ukrainians keep showing enormous courage in defending their country against Putin’s immoral and indeed evil efforts to conquer a neighbor. They have resisted now for four years and eight months and we should do all we can to help them.

The last of the Defense Support Program satellites were recently retired by the Space Force, but the program still has many unanswered questions. That includes mysteries created by newly discovered photos of one DSP satellite. thespacereview.com/article/5…

The speed limits on Starlink and Starshield are still there. The speed has not been restored. And the delivery of interceptors to protect us against Russian ballistic missiles is still delayed. We’re waiting for interceptors that were already agreed on. But they are still not coming. This is a real problem, because the Russians attack us almost every single day. All of this is happening while we continue our quite successful operations on the front. We keep defending positions. Things have become harder – partly because of the Starlink and Starshield policies and speed limits. But our frontline is still holding and I am proud of how strong our people are. From an address at the Hudson Institute. (2/3)

China released a 10-point paper on outer space governance, mounting direct challenge to US-led frameworks! Key subtext: demands strict state oversight to stop commercial firms from "intervening in conflicts" (Starlink reference) & insists the UN—not Western accords—lead space law. #CNSPACE
