Dr. Rodney Adriko, Head of Information Security Assurance at Centenary Bank (Uganda), challenged the notion that innovation and ethics are competing priorities during his session, “The Responsible AI Question: Can Innovation and Ethics Coexist?” He emphasized that responsible AI is achievable when governance is embedded from the very first use case, scaled to risk, and independently assured. As AI becomes increasingly autonomous, organizations must prioritize key considerations around data security, privacy, transparency, accountability, and fairness. Applying the Three Lines Model to AI governance helps ensure business ownership, robust oversight, and independent assurance. A key takeaway was that innovation and ethics are not a trade-off. Just as brakes enable a car to move safely at speed, effective governance gives leaders the confidence to deploy AI where it matters most, from customer experience to credit and payment systems.
