It's been a rather busy week but some fruit is really nice to see. The first issue of Palimpsest is out and, along with some of my colleagues, I have an essay in the issue: heyzine.com/flip-book/39407c…

Yep at least two authors. Gen 1 and Gen 2 are different authors, and later chapters include a blend of multiple authors. For example the Noah story has two versions interspersed side by side, episode by episode, in a more drawn out integration of the two sources

I got all this from books like: Scribal Culture and the Making of the Hebrew Bible by Karel van Der Toorn I can't recall the second one, but it basically covers the same topic.

In the time the traditions contained in Genesis was written, the idea of authorship was also not thought of as an individual thing, but a status held by a community. So it's more accurate to say the author(s) of Genesis were the communities that formed it's traditions.

I'm still taking in yesterday. Friends, mutuals and complete strangers amplified my story. I don't take it for granted. Because of you, we're at $3,900+. The road ahead is still long, with $25K due Dec 14 and every share gets me closer gofund.me/5a7dcc6ce

Hi everyone, I’m Marvellous, some of you know me as Ini. I’m a few months from finishing my MPH at NYU. I planned for this year with a student loan and a summer internship but it didn’t come through. Then this month, MPOWER shut down. I was on their waitlist. #FundDrMarvellous

Not an expert, but as far as I know: Historically speaking, Genesis has no one author. It, along with the other 4 books of the "Pentateuch" (or "Torah") are thought to have been first compiled, edited, and redacted in the format we recognize now at least in the 6th century BCE.

Undergraduates who enroll for courses involving the academic study of the bible (at least in the US) are often assigned the SBL Study Bible. I'd recommend it as well. It has introductions and notes that explain the history, context, etc. of the texts.

The traditional attribution of the texts is to Moses. This is not historical, but I am not of the opinion that the historical is the only way to understand origins and causation. Nevertheless, I think it is important to know the consensus on the historical origins of things.

Of all the things that irritate me about Man United, what really grates is the stupidity and arrogance of Ineos to not even understand or appreciate what Carrick did for them last season. It is the only time the club has enjoyed peace and quiet in 4/5 years and a lot of that was down to Carrick's measured temperament and complete lack of ego in coming into the club, setting aside his own ideas and just doing the basics that needed doing. It is the only time the Ineos losers and syciphants have had the confidence to show their faces in public (wilcox did podcasts!) But he's an inexperienced guy and needed a solid support system. No addition to his backroom staff and transfers purely to save money. A stupid lackadaisical preseason in Dublin. And now we are back here again. I despise these people.

Neoplatonic Virtue: Does Foreknowledge Destroy Freedom? If the gods know what we will do, must we do it? Proclus ends On Providence with Iamblichus' answer: knowledge follows the nature of the knower, not the known. The gods know our open future without closing it.
