And I would have sued. If she’s 10 fucking centimeters someone should have been at the end of the bed already. That baby could have slipped out and hit his head if that dad wasn’t looking. Nurses walking around looking confused asf. He looks irritated and rightfully so.

“This is the plantation politic that defines Houston's power structure. The strong donor class often straps non-white people into political leadership as managers of non-white dissent.” — @uyive_

First of all, I pray that this young woman sees all those in her corner and praying she is well and receives the justice she deserves. Thank you to AJPlus for highlighting the disparity in reaction between to assault and anti-genocide protest activity.

Let's get some hype going for this documentary, which investigates Kahanist terror on American soil that targeted Palestinian Americans. Alex Odeh's name should be widely known!

Huey P. Newton said, “I do not expect the white media to create positive Black male images.” A white woman strangled her three children to death, and yet the lone Black male juror who refused to acquit her is now being cast as the problem. She is given context, sympathy, illness, and complexity. He is given suspicion.
She committed the violence, but he becomes the villain for refusing to excuse it.
Here’s something Black folks have long understood, in the United States a Black man does not need to commit violence to be treated violently.
The lone Black juror on the Lindsay Clancy trial who refused to acquit her used an exercise band and an empty water bottle to visually reenact the way Clancy strangled her three children. The incident was said to have disturbed the other 11 jurors.
He was also said to have ignored the other jurors and scrolled on his phone while they attempted to speak with him or dissuade him from his decision. A male juror who voted to acquit Clancy, Nick Dargie, complained to ABC that “there wasn’t a single piece of evidence or witness testimony that he used to prove why he was thinking the way he was.”
Due to the lone Black juror’s heroic refusal to bow to pressure from the other 11 jurors, Clancy remains in state custody, likely awaiting another trial by prosecutors.

I've said this too, tho it's often said somewhat in jest because of Houston labor's weak position, the TX AFL-CIO's reliance on "safe" public-sector unions, and the fraction of laborers who benefit. Not as simple as A+B=C

Rep. Maxwell Frost does a good job of explaining student debt cancellation here in a macro-economic sense. But he also exposes something even sweeter: that there is no actual, sensible rationale for anyone to oppose student debt cancellation.

On @TexasStandard this morning I spoke about Whitmire & Houston more broadly. I think it's a mistake when people blame voters for low turnout, as if they got what they deserved for not being locally engaged. The better Q is: Why isn't the strongest mayor in the US more inspiring?

In Houston, the mayor has near-autocratic power the likes of which other "strong-mayor" cities like NY or LA can only dream of, yet its politics are stultifying, its outcomes unremarkable. For @TexasObserver I wrote about why the mayor is running out of time
