my strong sense is “staking” is an underexplored mechanism outside of crypto. buying bonds and treasuries used to be a much more political act, like you were proving how much you believed in the national project, now it’s just a fixed income product .. great loss in that

The insurance fires rubric is a trope. What really happened is that years of inflation (and interest rates) running ahead of regulated rents caused owners to financially abandon the buildings. The heating oil bill went unpaid. At the first winter freeze, the building's domestic water pipes burst and caused a total loss due to massive flood damage. Most of the residents finally vacated their destroyed rent stabilized apartments. Vagrants moved in and began to heat their squats with scrap wood in a steel barrel. Catastrophic fires ensued. 1977 is calling....

I know a YouTuber that made a video last year explaining how historically when it becomes untenable to run a rent control/stabilized building, fires possibly for insurance fraud tend to spike. He's a smart guy & people should've listened to him

Unfortunately this is a false dichotomy intended to leverage an outdated sanctions model. It's bad for business for the US to keep on weaponizing it's multinational businesses telling them to "pick a side" and shareholders will lose value over time by isolating US markets further
THE BLOCK: The Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network has cut off crypto exchange MEXC Global from the U.S. financial system after it said it facilitated $16 billion in illicit transactions tied to Iran, Russia, and North Korea.
"Financial institutions cannot have it both ways: Either you support the Iranian regime, or you have access to the U.S. financial system," said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

I've been a hiring manager at a BigBox store. I completely believe.
>Walk in to get a job.
>Hi, can I speak to the manager?
>employee_regret_face.exe as they pick up the phone
>"There's a guy here to see you."
>"About what?" *sounds of a trashcompactor*
>employee_regret_face2.exe
>"About what?"
>I'm inquiring about a job.
>"It's about a job."
>*trashcompactor noises* "Did he put in an app?"
>"Did you put in an app online?"
>Yes.
>"Yes."
>"We'll call him." *sounds of trashcompactor jamming*
>"They'll call you."
>Can I talk them?
>"He wants to talk to you."
>*disgruntled manager noises* "Alright, let him know I'm on my way. It's gonna be a minute."
>time passes
>manager arrives, carrying temp logs and the nightly dock keys
>"How can I help you?"
>I'm hear about a job.
>"Did you apply online?"
>Yes.
>"Great. When we get that from the hiring team, we'll give you a call."
>Bell rings. Manager looking down aisle.
>Can I give you my resume?
>"Absolutely!"
>Shake.
>Walk away.
>Manager seen putting resume into a stack of papers on desk before chasing the alarm. Hiring is handled by online team without store input.
Four weeks later, the hiring manager is handed a stack of apps from the store HR rep.
Manager flips through it. Bunch of randos. Nothing crazy.
Manager finds the app, recognizes the name. "Oh, hey, it's that Zero kid."
"You know him?" assistant manager asks.
"Nah." Manager flips pages. Stops. It's the first time reading the resume, since it wasn't "real" until HR sent it over. "Holy shit, Aaron."
"Whazzat?" assistant manager chugs his third White Monster of the evening.
"Guy's a chemical engineer!"
"Holy shit."
"Yeah."
"He's never gonna stick around. Who else we got?"

I am having a hard time believing he can’t get a job at McDonald’s or Walmart. Both have signs in my town for hiring. Something is either up with his interviewing skills, they see that he is just using them as a temp position, arrogance etc.
I get the engineering jobs. He probably has no experience. Did he intern for summers? Did he build contacts, did he spend time networking? Too many unanswered questions for this to be accepted on face value.
