FRUIT FLY BRAIN MINES BITCOIN AT POTENTIAL 10X ASIC EFFICIENCY Introducing HashFly by @FutureBit, an experimental Bitcoin miner based on a reconstructed fruit fly brain using 2,914 real neuron connections to run SHA-256. The team says that if the system could be scaled using actual organic neurons, it could theoretically hash at roughly 1 W/TH, around 10x more energy efficient than leading 3nm silicon ASICs. For now, it’s an experiment. But biologically inspired Bitcoin mining is officially a thing.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The claims describe a humorous meme visualization of simulated fruit fly connectome data deciding minimal SHA-256 attempts, not a real experimental miner or product by FutureBit. shop.futurebit.io research.google/blog/a-connect… theflyminer.xyz x.com/FutureBit/stat…

On July 2, 1982, a 33-year-old truck driver named Larry Walters tied 42 helium weather balloons to a Sears lawn chair, strapped on a parachute, packed a BB gun, sandwiches, and a six-pack… and cut the rope. He expected to float a few hundred feet over his San Pedro backyard. Instead he shot up like a rocket to 16,000 feet — straight into the main approach path for LAX. Two airline pilots radioed the tower: they had just passed a man in a lawn chair holding a gun at 16,000 feet. For 45 minutes he floated over Los Angeles, freezing, too scared to shoot more balloons. Finally he started popping them one by one and came down tangled in power lines in Long Beach, blacking out part of the neighborhood. When police asked why he did it, he said: “A man can’t just sit around.” FAA fined him $4,000. America turned him into a folk hero — Lawnchair Larry. True story.

Singapore just switched on the world's first data center powered by living human brain cells. Actual neurons. grown from human stem cells. sitting on electrode-fitted silicon chips. processing information. A company called Cortical Labs takes human blood cells and reprograms them into stem cells. those stem cells are then cultured into neurons. the neurons are placed on a chip with 59 electrodes that send and receive electrical signals. the cells process those signals and respond. the system interprets those responses as computing output. 20 of these units called CL1 are now running in a rack at the National University of Singapore's Life Sciences Institute. the full rack draws 800 to 1,000 watts. a comparable Nvidia AI rack draws over 100,000 watts. the neurons are a million times more energy-efficient than silicon that's not marketing copy, that's from FinalSpark, a Swiss company running the same technology. The details that make this story impossible to look away from: the neurons die. every six months. the modules need to be refreshed with new cells. before becoming a commercial product, Cortical Labs taught the cells to play Pong. then Doom. 800,000 neurons completing a first-person shooter is apparently a required milestone before enterprise deployment. the CIA's venture capital arm, In-Q-Tel is an investor in Cortical Labs. the same organization that funded the satellite mapping tech that became Google Earth, that built listening devices and spy gadgets, now funds a data center made of human neurons. the listed use cases: drug discovery. humanoid robotics. fraud detection. cybersecurity. one month of access to a single unit costs $2,200. half the price of renting a comparable Nvidia chip. 🤯

American foods are cleverly changing their names because they no longer qualify as that legal food. - Pringles used to be potato chips, now they’re labeled as “potato crisps” per FDA rules - McDonald’s Shakes are now called “shakes” (not legally milkshakes in some states) - Klondike Bar is no longer a chocolate shell, it’s a Chocolatey shell (not real chocolate) - Dairy Queen: All items are “treats” (no “ice cream” on the menu) - Oreo changed the spelling to “creme” (alternative spelling, not real cream) - Tyson changed spelling to “Wyngz” (It’s a processed chicken labeling trick) - Costco Blueberry Bagels labels as Imitation blueberry bagels (no actual blueberries) - Pearl Milling Company Syrup (formerly Aunt Jemima) Now ‘Original syrup’ not maple syrup. The first ingredients is corn syrup. Our food is a science experiment. Make America Healthy Again.

BREAKING: 🇺🇸 The SEC has officially proposed its first ever crypto rulebook. Here are the key points: 1. Projects can raise up to $75 million a year without registering as securities. 2. A separate one time exemption allows up to $5 million over four years. 3. A token stops being a security once the team finishes what it promised to build. 4. State securities rules get overridden for these offerings. 5. Projects still have to disclose key information to investors. The public comment period runs 60 days.

now NUMEROUS different attackers exploiting the Coldcard vulnerability. we estimate at least 15 different attackers now we continue to receive victim reports and give them info to report to authorities and those reports help us identify new attacks and label attackers
🚨LOSSES FROM COLDCARD HACK EXCEED $100M High confidence 1,596 BTC has been stolen from ~7300 addresses across 3 confirmed waves + more 14 smaller incidents. If we add suspected (but unconfirmed), the total balloons to $130m (2k BTC). More in the thread below 👇

WARNING: All ColdCard models are now being drained. Take action if you use any of their devices.
It's happening. Mk4, Mk5, Q are now actively drained. Breaking an Mk4 is HARDER than breaking a weak passphrase, so your Mk3 "passphrase protected" are at immediate risk (if less or around 32 bits entropy).

We were asked whether the recent wallet drain linked to COLDCARD was Ill Bloom. It is not the same vulnerable code, but it is the same class of attack: weak entropy during wallet creation makes private keys recoverable. 📢The priority now is notifying affected users. Ill Bloom taught us that a visible sweep does not mean every exposed wallet has been found. There are users to protect, but the window is closing. This case involves a single vendor with official communication channels. Ill Bloom affects multiple vendors, including some that no longer exist. That should make notification easier here. The warning applies to anyone who used affected COLDCARD firmware to generate a recovery phrase, not only current COLDCARD users. Importing that phrase into another wallet or a newer device does not repair it. Do not infer the full scope from one consolidation address. That is simply the easiest pattern to detect. Other drains may use fresh destination addresses. Reproducing the vulnerable seed-generation process is important defensive work. It can help estimate exposure, identify wallets still at risk, detect less obvious drains, and find exchange interactions that may allow KYC-enabled services to notify affected customers. Lawful recovery using reconstructed private keys may sound ideal. But once a private key is compromised, control of it no longer proves legitimate ownership. Without clear safe-harbor and ownership-verification procedures, moving third-party funds is legally and operationally risky. Do not improvise. The safest scalable response is to amplify the official advisory and reach users before attackers do. If you used COLDCARD to generate your recovery phrase: generate a new mnemonic using unaffected hardware and software. Back it up securely, and move the funds. Never share your recovery phrase or enter it into a website or checker. A weak seed stays weak forever.

I will post a blog article later today. But TLDR: - it's worse than you think. - Mk4, MK5, Q will get drained. - multisig of Coldcard devices, or multisig where Coldcard signatures are sufficient to reach the threshold are at risk. - MINISCRIPT WALLETS are ALSO at risk, if you use Coldcards where only CC signatures are enough to spend, or to recover. No need to panic, but time to plan a move to new mnemonics/devices in the next few days, if you used a Coldcard in your setup.
