The new Waymo Ojais are extremely bad. Besides the doors it's a huge regression from the i-PACE in every way.

“we were made aware of multiple attempts to exploit our permissive licensing to hijack our work”
what did y’all think permissive meant? vibes? papers? essays?
Asahi Linux is moving everything from the MIT licence to GPLv2-or-later.
Asahi is the volunteer project that reverse-engineers Apple Silicon Macs so they can run Linux. In today's Linux 7.3 progress report, developer James Calligeros explains why: people have been using the permissive licence to take the team's work. "In some extreme cases, in-development feature code was being lifted straight out of our personal forks and published without attribution or lazily rewritten with LLM assistance to obfuscate its origin."
The report points to WINE, which switched from MIT to LGPL in 2002 for the same reason: "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
The same report brings real wins too. M3 Macs now install without the EXPERT flag, Thunderbolt support (USB3 and networking for now) is shipping to users, and the team got GTA IV and Fallout: New Vegas running outside the muvm VM using Google's per-process page size patches.

Be sure to honor your ancestors tonight, for it is the 25th anniversary of this legend
All of the stupidest and meanest people I know are vehemently anti-AI.
The Common Desktop Environment was created by a collaboration of Sun, HP, IBM, DEC, SCO, Fujitsu and Hitachi. Used on a selection of commercial UNIXs, it is now available as open-source software for the first time. sourceforge.net/projects/cde…

CDE has been Open Source under the GNU LGPL license since 2012. This is not new.

This delights me so very much. People using AI to take back control of devices that they bought, but were covertly designed to spy on them and harvest their data.
I'm usually reluctant to brandish my fame, but I'm gonna do it for this worthy cause. OG hacker says you're doing good! This kind of liberation is what it's all about.

The funny thing is everyone was saying AI slop code will cause a cyber crisis but it’s actually all the old human slop causing it and the AI is just cleaning it up

We are launching the Tesla Robotaxi safety report today.
Till date, Robotaxi has driven a total of 3.3 million miles autonomously, and has had zero injuries nor airbag deployments. If the same number of miles were to be manually driven, we should expect roughly 9 injuries to the occupants or other pedestrians and 4 airbag deployments on average.
We will continue to transparently share our progress with the public using this page.

Fantasy computer security problems: "Maybe by sending packets and detecting the timing of the vibrations of the computer case, it is possible for an attacker to gain information about the private key."
Real computer security problems: "The private key was 4. Not 4 digits. 4."

Unpopular opinion: Halloween is an occult play, a commercial morbidity, and celebrates an attraction to the grotesque. It trains the heart to delight in degradation, cruelty (trick-or-treat!), fear, and uncleanness.
Worst holiday imo, can't wait for Christmas.
