"My species is mono-gendered; male and female have no real meaning for us."
So no, chuds, @bioware did not and was not "retconning" the Asari to use pronouns because they were going "woke". Liara explains to Shepard in the OG Mass Effect that she is "not precisely a woman". When she and other asari use feminine pronouns like "she" and "her," they do so primarily as an efficient means to ease communication and bridge the linguistic gap with gender-binary species (like humans, turians, and salarians) who rely heavily on those concepts.
But you're nothing but LARPers and tourists who have never ACTUALLY played any of the Mass Effect games, and just want to continue your diatribe about how "go woke, go broke".

If you can't be bothered to write it, why should I read it?
If you can't be bothered to craft it, why should I touch it?
If you can't be bothered to learn it, why should I listen?
If you can't be bothered to watch it, why should I see it?

Someone good at the economy, please help me budget this, or *random studio* will die.
Mergers and Acquisitions.
The games industry became less about the craft and more about the investment expectations.
Idiots in suits who donβt understand games telling creatives what to do basically.

Replying to @nighttime1998 @Mapocolops
Because it's easier to blame the little guy.
People blaming "Woke" instead of trend chasing and private equity acquisitions which are more factors than having gay characters. Couldn't possible be EA having to cut 700 million in spending to be able to meet the debt owed, no it's clearly having gay characters that caused all this.

Reminder:
- EA cancelled the Single Player Dragon Age 4 in development from 2015-2017
- Pushed them to create a live service Dragon Age because of trend chasing. They considered multiplayer the future of gaming, "nobody plays single player games anymore" except then Jedi Fallen Order released with huge success and they pivoted again.
- After 3 years of development on Live Service Age from 2018-2021, EA & Bioware decide to remove the Multiplayer component but instead of rebooting a second time they gave them 18 months to rip out all that live service work and have them make it a single player game AGAIN, at a significant disadvantage to meet expectations.
- Six years of wasted development now, when a lot of the series veterans had been laid off or quit out of frustration with EA along with numerous management and staff changes. Among these names are David Gaider, Mike Laidlaw, and later before Veilguard's release Mary Kirby. Her departure was an abysmal sign for the future of DA before this next game had even released.
- This resulted in the announcement of Dragon Age Dreadwolf in 2022, later renamed Veilguard which retained the scars of it's live service development when it released in 2024 and was never the true game Bioware would have given us if they hadn't been constantly fucked around.
We could and should have had the intended Dragon Age 4 before 2020, instead it took almost a DECADE for the follow up.
The worst things these companies do is trend chase something, with zero foresight on temporary trends. By the time you release that game public opinion has shifted. Rocksteady's Suicide Squad as a clear example of this too.
Just let creative people make something they are passionate about and stop putting them in boxes. Let developers make something real by giving them time and resources to deliver something memorable with a clear goal, not a post mortem example like Anthem on how not to develop a game.
EA has been fucking over Bioware basically since they acquired them. Issues with Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard aside as yes all three have their issues and you'll even have people going back to Mass Effect 3/DA2/Inquisition with issues as well; a lot of this comes from a long long period of EA pushing Bioware into a corner and then watching them be a punching bag for it. It also comes from internal schisms within Bioware where there was a strange Mass Effect vs Dragon Age rift and David Gaider said they may as well have been two different studios with how the culture was different, plus the writers getting fucked over at every turn.
People taking the lowest hanging fruit possible and are gonna just say it was Veilguard, it was Anthem, it was Andromeda etc that sealed their fate when in actual reality it was a long list of issues going back 15+ years that led to the issues within those games in the first place.

Artists will carve their own path doing what they want, how they want & every single mofo who preached "You'll be left behind." will wonder why people are still choosing to back the crazy idiot doing something different than all the money obsessed tech dependent algorithm chasers

EA was bought by a private equity firm a couple of years ago.
I need every single chud gamer to hear this: this is what is ACTUALLY ruining gamingβnot βDEIβ or βwokeness.β
Private equity wrings out industries for profitβsacrificing quality in the process. Now we wonβt get ME4.
EA is shutting down BioWare, the studio behind βDragon Ageβ and βMass Effectβ.
The next βMass Effectβ game has been cancelled as a result.

The first game a game studio makes is usually the most time-consuming, and game a studio ever makes. But it could also be the investment that makes the next 3 games possible at a fraction of the development effort. That shit can't happen if you layoff your team after a launch.

The anti-woke brigade cheering the closure of BioWare while being totally OK with EA being sold to Saudi Arabia couldnβt be a better representation of how they literally stand on nothing besides sticking it to the βlibsβ.

Being in videogames means knowing just how complicated things are that some shit can't be as easily summed up in a youtube clickbait title or a Twitter shitpost as people are going through it.
Making games is hard and it's hard in all the unnecessary ways it shouldn't be.

take one look at veilguard's artbook, at all the amazing ideas the devs had and were forced to scrap because ea forced them to remake the game from scratch more than once. do not blame it on the people working there because "they made a bad game", these devs are troopers

βgo to hellβ is basic. βi hope you get into bioware rpgs super late, EA gets sold to saudi arabia less than a year later, and then bioware is shut down completely and mass effect 5 is canceled" is smart. itβs possible. itβs terrifying. it's happened to me.

Veilguard did not kill BioWare. Private equity killed BioWare. Money killed BioWare. Corporate greed killed BioWare. Shut the fuck up about wokeness and Veilguard for fuckβs sake. Holy shit
I was up last night thinking about the argument of AI as a "tool" and I'm left feeling like there's an alternative reality where that IS true but it's one where the tech was developed by and for artists to genuinely make our lives easier and not cut us out entirely
If anyone has any evidence on why AI is not a bubble and we shouldn't be concerned, please feel free to send it my way! I don't want to be in a bubble of information but I find it really hard to find anyone of any merit who isn't concerned that these companies will not meet ROIs
I think the technology is limited but that's a separate argument. A super impressive tech that you can run for free on your home or office computer or a much cheaper Chinese model that will give you 95% quality of the more expensive US IPOs means there's no moats. There's nothing
