Every story matters and is a piece of the larger puzzle. She describes the high-control environment of #ihopkc well.

Forgiveness ≠ 0 consequences

Call things by their right name. That last one’s for you @ihopkc

Two bits to add:
One, CSA is not a church issue. It’s a legal and criminal issue. It should be handled by legal and criminal authorities. Prosecute, try, and jail abusers.
Two, an abusive pastor doesn’t get “forgiven and restored” to be a pastor again. Get a different job.
Great look, guys. I’m sure Jesus would approve.

Is Gateway a cult, part 2.
From the Cult Education Institute:
2. Zero tolerance for criticism or questions.
Again, this one is tricky, because cults tend to be more intimate than Gateway. Robert was seen by most GW people on jumbo-trons and book covers.
And while I’m specifically looking at #gateway, we would all do well to look at our churches and evaluate. No one really signs up to be in a cult. Most in cults don’t realize it. Pray for open eyes, and take a good, hard look.
I had a horribly long convo with a real-deal narcissist today and am reminded:
There is no winning with a narcissist. They cannot see another perspective. The only thing you can do is try to get away with as little personal damage as possible. But you will always lose.
🧵Is Gateway a cult? I’ve seen the label attached to Gateway countless times over the last several weeks but never in a reasoned way. I think it would be helpful to define a cult and really take a look at GW to see if the shoe fits. I welcome input from anyone with GW experience.
Please say anything contrary, if you know something.
Has Robert ever been checked or overridden?
What say do elders have in decisions?
