WHY ARE BOYS AND MEN TURNING AWAY FROM BOOKS? PERHAPS PUBLISHING SHOULD LOOK IN THE MIRROR.
A provocative new @Quillette article by Adam Szetela, “How to Suppress Men’s Writing”, exposes a remarkable transformation in the publishing industry. And it raises uncomfortable questions about ideological conformity, institutional bias and the neglect of male readers.
quillette.com/2026/10/23/why…
Consider the figures Szetela cites:
• Over 70% of employees at America's Big Five publishers are women.
• Over 70% of editors and interns are women.
• Over 60% of publishing executives are women.
• The industry disproportionately recruits graduates from elite universities.
Yet these same institutions frequently proclaim their commitment to diversity, inclusion and representing marginalised voices.
The hypocrisy is blatant and extreme. Their diversity doesn't include men.
Szetela argues that contemporary publishing increasingly privileges leftist ideological narratives, identity politics and particular conceptions of female experience, while marginalising traditionally masculine storytelling, interests and perspectives.
His most provocative contention?
“Young men don’t hate reading—they hate the books these women publish.”
Consider David Goggins' Can't Hurt Me: an unapologetically masculine account of adversity, discipline, resilience and extraordinary achievement. Goggins self-published it, subsequently selling millions of copies.
Meanwhile, boys' reading engagement and literacy outcomes remain deeply concerning...
Of course, smartphones, gaming, educational practices and other factors also contribute. Nor does female representation itself establish discrimination. But Szetela raises an important question: Why do institutions routinely examine their own biases when minority groups are underrepresented, yet so rarely apply the same scrutiny when boys and men disengage?
Having personally reviewed more than 300 books during the last seven years, and also having recently published 100 of the Best Books for Men, I know there’s an extraordinary wealth of literature capable of inspiring, challenging and enriching male readers… Read my book for free at the National Library of Australia:

We should celebrate books about courage, adventure, fatherhood, competition, sacrifice, responsibility, achievement and the distinctive experiences of men and boys.
The answer isn't fewer books for women. It's more great books for everyone, especially including men and boys.
Publishing should embrace genuine intellectual diversity, rather than ideological gatekeeping…
Men and boys deserve literature that speaks to their interests, aspirations and potential.

A detective involved in the case would agree, Peter. @PeterElston1
He told investigators, "you've got a note saying I've killed myself, so it was treated as four murders and a suicide."
The detective, who's since died, was not asked anything else about this.

Note the 'editorial adjacency' in these two Metro articles, which could almost be the same one, and are intended to give that impression
However the 'wage pay gap' remains an academic-media myth, and more than a third of Interpersonal Violence (IPV) cases are female-on-male

And what about the appalling situation of those seeking appeals in Scotland after the judicial system was found to be running unfair trials and suppressing lies/relevant evidence resulting in countless MOJ's? Should you not be focusing on what is a bigger scandal than the PO?

"Today, the Big Five publishers are staffed almost entirely by women. According to the most recent data, more than 70 percent of staffers are women. More than 70 percent of editors are women. Even 70 percent of all interns are women. At the executive level, more than 60 percent of leaders are women. In 2026, American publishing looks like lululemon."
Surely in this era of equality it's time for sex 50/50 in the Armed Forces?
Wouldn't you agree, @womensaid?

False accusation is attempted murder.
False accusers must be prosecuted and punished with jail. And this must be seen to be done.
Careers destroyed. Officers left in limbo for years. Dismissals overturned when the damage can never be undone.
As I ask in today’s @Sunday_Post: why does no one in Police Scotland’s senior management ever seem to pay a price when disciplinary failures wreck an officer’s life?
Decent officers are being failed. Those unfit to wear the uniform must be removed. This broken system fails on both counts.
Yet @neilcgray has laid regulations before Parliament that deny most ranks independently chaired hearings for gross misconduct allegations. Nearly six years after ministers accepted reform, they are still refusing to deliver it.
I will challenge this in the @SP_Justice. Ministers and the most senior police officers must answer for the failures they expect everyone else to live with.

All fun and games when these witch hunts only targeted abusers! However, as always with fomented policy targeting people regardless of innocence or guilt, these shitty decisions leach into other areas and it's witch hunts for all, unless you're of a certain rank and paygrade.
Most negative SSIs are simply rubber stamped by Parliament, which is why Speirs and co thought they could slide this dogshit under the radar
But Cicero, @RealStephenKerr and @ladymcbeth2 know what’s right for honest hard working cops and the public

People Convicted of Sex Offences (PCOSOs) - more accurate :)
@franticworry @InsideTimeUK
Replying to @FASO880221 @CentreMalePsych
It's an unfortunate fact that employers -particularly in the media -are unlikely to accept 'sex offenders' if known, even if they think it not a criminal risk or accept a wrongful conviction. If word 'got out' their business might be in jeopardy so it's a reasonable decision alas.
Big Brother contestant, who from this account in the Metro appears to have simply said things, accused of 'controlling behaviour' by @womensaid

In the Metro @sarahhhooper reports on the six women, four men jury in the case of Kieran Hayler - falsely accused ex husband of Katie 'dangerous witness' Price
It is important to report the sex-balance in such 'New Culture Crime' trials. This one nearly got it right - it shows
'I checked out Sean's case and and it is a shocking injustice he had. The court and legal team were appalling both at advice and highlighting evidence. It looks like many of these trials are intentionally bad, virtual kangaroo courts'
