LIC policyholders' money saved IDBI Bank. Modi govt sold it below its own reserve price.
→ IDBI Bank sold to Canada's Fairfax for ₹52,878 crore, at ₹81 per share.
→ The reserve price was ₹94.42. Fairfax's first bid was just ₹75.
→ The rules were changed mid-way, after the sealed bids were opened. Fresh bids were taken, and ₹81 was accepted. On top of that, the bank got some tax relief.
→ To justify a sale below the reserve price, the Railway Stores Code was allegedly cited. That's the rule for auctioning railway SCRAP.
→ The second bidder's identity was hidden, citing "national security".
→ In 2019, LIC put in over ₹26,000 crore of policyholders' money to save the bank, with a special IRDAI exemption.
→ Today the bank is in profit: ₹7,515 crore in FY25, ₹9,513 crore in FY26.
Now connect the dots.
When the bank was sinking, the common man's LIC money was used to save it.
When the bank started making thousands of crores, it was handed to a foreign buyer below the reserve price.
The rules were changed after the bids were opened. No new bidders were invited. The other bidder was kept secret.
And a scrap auction rule was used to sell a profit-making bank.
Losses were made public. Profits went private.
This is the Modi model. Revive with your money, sell to their chosen buyer.
Modi, why was a profit-making bank sold below its reserve price?

Who was the second bidder, and what are you hiding?

Amitabh Kant was on the government of India panel that suggested sale of IDBI Bank.
Later he joined Fairfax, the now new owner of IDBI. as Senior Advisor.
That is a clear case of conflict of interest.
However, there is nothing new in this, long time ago, Ajit Kerkar was on the disinvestment panel that suggested the sale of Centaur Hotels, then when the hotel came up for disinvestment, Ajit Kerkar switched sides and purchased Centaur Hotel Juhu, which he renamed to Tulip Hotels. Happens all the time, especially under BJP. The other Centaur was purchased by a dummy company, the Airport Centaur, and was sold within a few months for 6x the purchase price to Sahara and became Sahara Star....
