Because the top 1% pay 40% of all federal tax revenue. If you make them leave, that's nearly half of all your funding for all of your precious social programs gone.
Why is "the rich will just leave" treated as a good argument against higher taxes?

This shit has to stop. AI risks killing all attempts at meritocracy. People will get chaired professorships based on slop they never even wrote.

I hate to break it to you but a lot of your friends will eventually call you "the rich" when they run out of billionaires and surgeons to eat.
When I say "eat the rich," I don't mean the surgeon with 700K in his bank account who had sleepless nights and worked hard for it. I mean the billionaires who earn 10K a minute even while they're asleep.

Calling boys who enjoy a survivalist story "would-be incels" is crazy work. And that's a grown woman using that kind of language for children. Shameful.

Was reviewing Claude's code and noticed a sus-looking if condition. Ask it what is this, and it dumped a 2 paragraphs of some very plausible bullshit. If I hadn't known this part of the codebase by heart (because I wrote it by hand) I would've taken it. But I pushed back and told it how it's supposed to be. After it "You're absolutely right"ed me - it did the change, but also changed come completely unrelated code, because, in its opinion, it follows a similar pattern (it's not, there is only some superficial similarity). I got so triggered by it (it was towards the end of the day and I was already kinda tired) that I just rage-nuked all unstaged changes and started rewriting it all by hand. It wasn't much, about 150 lines of code, but while rewriting it my eyes fell on some other code, unrelated to the task, that tingled my spidey-sense. And indeed - there was a bug, actual user-facing bug, and the only reason I spotted it is because it was on the way of me manually navigating to the part I actually needed. This makes me think how many other opportunities to improve the project I miss when I only look at the diffs.

Sorry guys. Software engineering and programming are dead. You just need to have perfect specs, unchanging requirements, an agentic deployment framework for high frequency releasing, and engineers with good taste and judgement.

no software engineer would say this, yeah you are not a software engineer.
one of the most underrated asymmetries right now is that slop is totally fine for the backend and basically fatal in the frontend. if you’re backend is slop, the app still works. if your front end and overall experience is slop, the *product* does not.

Lord pop this AI fucking bubble and put these weirdos in a psych ward
"Content creators" as we know them, will not exist in the coming years Nobody will be YouTubers, influencers, etc Why? Because there will be AI-generated content creators that are 1000x more entertaining, engaging, knowledgeable, etc These AI creators won't be operated by individuals. They'll be operated by quant-like firms that ingest enormous amounts of audience data, continuously optimizing every aspect of their content based on real-time engagement metrics Every video, joke, opinion, every interaction will be engineered to maximize audience attention Especially now that algos rule everything by serving you content they think you will like Human content creators will still exist but it will be akin to me day trading on Robinhood vs a team of 1,000 quants at Jane Street

I wish LLMs were just another tech for engineers so we could have rational discourse about it. But instead we staked all economy growth on it, CEOs are hoping they can finally have no workers, grifters sense opportunity, and spiteful losers publicly hoping artists will starve.

One of the scariest things about dating is that you can spend 5 years with someone, genuinely believe you’re going to marry them, and then never speak to them again. Think about how insane that is. You’ve met each other’s families. Traveled together. Spent hundreds of nights sleeping next to each other. Know their deepest insecurities, weird habits, favorite foods, everything. You planned a future together. Then one day it’s over. Six months later, some random guy from Hinge is now dating her, taking her to dinner, meeting her parents, sleeping in your old spot, and building the future you thought was yours. Meanwhile, you’re supposed to just move on like those 5 years never happened. That’s what makes relationships so terrifying. You can know someone better than anyone else on the planet and eventually become two people who don’t even say happy birthday to each other. Crazy how someone can be your entire world and eventually become someone you know nothing about.

Men die from suicide more often, women more affected
Männer begehen nicht öfter Suizid, das ist das Suizidparadoxon, Frauen haben mehr Versuche, Männer sterben nur eher an Suiziden, weil Frauen sich eher Hilfe suchen.

I can't wait for everyone to vibe their own TLS impl. And their own OS, programming language, runtime! Definitely no bugs gonna happen. Make no mistakes. Dependencies are so over!
What’s going to happen to open source? A prediction: Dependencies are over. The same Brotli vulnerability impacted .NET, Node, Bun, Envoy and more. Dependencies are too big of a target. When rewriting a dependency is one prompt away, why take the risk?
