The National Police Service Commission participated in the 7th National Palliative Care Conference held in Mombasa County, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening officer wellness frameworks within the National Police Service. The Conference, themed “Universal Access to Compassionate and Comprehensive Palliative Care in Kenya,” was organized by the Ministry of Health. It was graced by Commissioner Angeline Siparo who also serves as the Chairperson of the Welfare, Counselling and Professional Development Committee. In her opening remarks, Commissioner Siparo cited People Policy and Programs as the cornerstone of sustainable and dignified palliative care. She underscored the Commission’s deliberate efforts to embed mental health and psychosocial support within structured wellness systems, elevating care from ad hoc intervention to institutional priority. The forum provided valuable insights on integrating palliative care into the broader management of welfare and counselling services for police officers.

We’re proud that ICPCN’s Research Manager, Dr Callie Daniels-Howell @callie_dh, is in attendance and kicked off this morning’s pre-conference workshops. Callie joined Dr Catherine Marete, Paediatrician, and Elizabeth Kabuthi, Child Life Specialist, to lead interactive “skills merry-go-round” sessions covering: • Pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management • Child life practices • Family-centred end-of-life care A fantastic start to what promises to be an inspiring and impactful conference. #ChildrensPalliativeCare #GlobalHealth #KEHPCA #KehpcaCares #pcconference2026

Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, today led the commemoration of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, emphasizing the shift from curative care to prevention and health promotion. She highlighted the role of Community Health Promoters in expanding access to essential cancer services at the grassroots level. Speaking in Nyandarua County, PS Muthoni announced the development of the National Cervical Cancer Elimination Action Plan in collaboration with ThinkWell. This initiative will outline a costed action plan, an investment case, and an advocacy framework to accelerate Kenya’s goal of eliminating cervical cancer by 2030. She also noted Kenya’s participation in the WHO AFRO Women Integrated Cancer Services (WICS) project, which enhances prevention, early detection, and management of breast and cervical cancers, NCDs, and mental health through a primary healthcare approach. “As we mark the climax of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, our efforts must continue beyond today. Early screening, HPV vaccination, and timely treatment save lives. Let’s ensure every woman has access to these essential services,” said PS Muthoni.
